AEW Dynamite Results – Adam Page and MJF Meet

Welcome to our live recap of tonight’s AEW Dynamite results.

AEW Dynamite airs live once again from the Andrew J. Brady Music Center in Cincinnati,  OH, tonight. Jon Moxley returns to his hometown as he locks up with Kevin Knight following last week’s victory over “Speedball” Mike Bailey. MJF meets the AEW World Champion Hangman Adam Page face-to-face. Elsewhere, Adam Copeland gets his hands on FTR’s loudmouth, fast-talking manager, Stokely Hathaway—I mean, Big Stoke. Plus, Mercedes Mone joins Skye Blue and Thekla of the Triangle of Madness as they take on Alex Windsor, Willow Nightingale, and Queen Aminata!

Jon Moxley continues to give a platform to AEW’s recent hot signings, giving them ample room to familiarize themselves with the wider AEW audience, not counting tag team affairs. I imagine Mark Briscoe might make some sort of appearance during Hangman’s verbal confrontation with MJF. At least I hope so, or at least keep him serious and not let him fall into comic relief like R-Truth over in WWE. Either Copeland versus Stoke ends in FTR shenanigans or in a short affair as the Rated-R Superstar continues his war with the tag team. The women’s trios match is a perfect way of having the incredible players of the undercard mix it up with the big players of Alex Windsor, Mercedes Mone, and Willow Nightingale.

Follow along with live results from tonight’s card with updated play-by-play and takes from the matches!

Hangman Adam Page and MJF Went Face-to-Face

(Well done. Page normally would’ve delivered a promo befitting of Scripture, but instead, he let MJF get into theology. And then ultimately outsmarted him.)

MJF pointed out Page’s propensity for anger and how it had cost him opportunities before. He bragged that he’d focus on that weakness to win the AEW Men’s World Championship in his first defense. Page called out MJF’s schtick and referred to him as a coward for not challenging him on this episode. MJF retorted that Page posits himself as a “god”, whereas he’s the “devil” and is “real”. Page once more broadcast that MJF is too afraid to challenge him for the belt at Forbidden Door. This successfully goaded MJF into accepting.

Jon Moxley defeated Kevin Knight via submission

(Moxley, using his time and star power to give the members of JetSpeed a notable spot on televised cards, is a net positive. Bailey and Knight put up valiant performances with him, and they both feel all the more notable for it.

Moxley, flanked by Wheeler Yuta and Marina Shafir, informed Darby Allin that what he thinks is going to happen at Forbidden Door, “isn’t going to happen at Forbidden Door.” The trio then marched to the ring.

Knight cornered Moxley, stomping his midsection into the turnbuckle. Moxley gained the advantage after a strike exchange. Knight glided across the ring apron to stagger the Death Rider with a mid-air dropkick. Moxley prevented more strikes from Knight, biting him in the arm. Despite his agony, Knight managed a dropkick and followed with a floaty splash. Moxley suffered a top rope superplex, but retaliated with a quick Cutter. “Speedball” Mike Bailey joined at ringside to equalize the threat of Yuta and Shafir.

Knight fired with a Cutter of his own. Moxley ensnared him in a sleeper hold. Wriggle as he might, Knight inevitably gave in and tapped out.

Post-match, Darby Allin sauntered to the ring, staring into the Death Riders’ souls. He then trapped Yuta in a big, black bag. Claudio Castagnoli came out of seemingly nowhere to pound Allin into a pulp and sealed him away in the bag. Castagnoli whirled Allin about, readying to stomp a chair through him. Will Ospreay returned, battering Castagnoli into the crowd’s ether. Ospreay obliterated Yuta. As Moxley retrieved Yuta, Ospreay challenged the Death Riders to a match with some of his “friends”, most likely NJPW’s United Empire and Allin.

Alex Windsor, Willow Nightingale, and Queen Aminata defeated Mercedes Mone, Skye Blue, and Thekla via submission

(I’m glad the Triangle of Madness, Aminata, and Nightingale shared a spot with the megastars in the main title picture, but I wish more was elaborated on with their stories, too.)

“Timeless” Toni Storm and Athena made their presences known on opposite balconies as they watched the match.Windsor gained the upper hand early with a snapmare. Aminata blasted Mone with her rear end. Mone summoned Thekla and Blue to torment Windsor in the corner. Nightingale hurled Thekla and Blue around. Windsor landed a Blue Thunder on Blue. Windsor, Aminata, and Nightingale stacked the opposition in the corner, leading Nightingale to cannonball herself onto the pile. Julia Hart sacrificed herself to distract Aminata, eating a headbutt so Thekla could kick the Queen in the skull. Windsor engaged Mone in a Sharpshooter.

As Windsor attempted the same to Blue, Mone hit her with a Backstabber. An all-out brawl ensued, and when the dust settled, Windsor sank in a deep Sharpshooter, which tapped Blue out.

Post-match, Athena and Storm brawled in the stands, while  a bitter Mone clobbered Windsor. Storm, dragged to the ramp by Athena, made a comeback to drop both her and Mone. With a microphone in hand, Storm challenged the pair to a match in Glasgow, Scotland.

Will Ospreay backstage interview with Renee Paquette

Ospreay announced that he, Darby Allin, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and two other wrestlers to be determined will face the Death Riders at Forbidden Door.

Adam Copeland versus Big Stoke ended in DQ

(Classic impactful storytelling: have comic relief throughout, only for an emotional gut punch with a brass ring of catharsis.)

Copeland, after a warm “Metalingus” reception by the Ohio crowd, watched in puzzlement as security had to drag Stoke out. He stood unflinching as Stoke weakly speared him. Somberly, he attempted to fist bump Copeland, which he obliged just for the Rated-R Superstar to punch him in the face. Copeland, mid-beatdown, asked members of the crowd what they thought of Stoke, to which they replied that he was “bald, short, and gets no hoes.” Asking women of the crowd if Stoke had a chance with them, one responded that he had no chance.

FTR approached the entrance, barricaded from the ring as though barred by an invisible force field. Copeland readied to finish off Stoke, to which FTR barged in. Copeland, now free to lay hands on them, Speared Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler. Stoke threw powder in Copeland’s face, resulting in a disqualification.

Post-match, FTR commenced further assault on Copeland. Christian Cage sprinted to the ring with Copeland’s Spike weapon in hand. Nick Wayne was not too far behind with a chair, but Cage caught him. Copeland and Cage watched as The Patriarchy and FTR departed into the misty crowd. Cage lent Copeland Spike. The legendary tag team partners embraced.

Mysterious HOOK vignette

A rainy, worm’s-eye view of New York City aired, with a swingy jazz piece playing in the background. In the sky, a Batman-esque symbol illuminated the clouds, with a single H.

Hiromu Takahashi, Hologram, Tomohiro Ishii, & Brody King defeated The Don Callis Family (Kyle Fletcher & Josh Alexander) and the Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson) via pinfall

Takahashi exploited his surprise factor to get the better of the Bucks. The brothers knocked King out by the commentary desk and superkicked Justin Roberts nearby. King mowed down all four members of his opposition with lariats. Like an unstoppable juggernaut, King cannonballed the Bucks. Alexander tied him up on the ropes, and the Bucks set their sights on him; as they kicked, he said “Oh God!” something I’m sure Wile E. Coyote probably thought every time he fell off a cliff chasing the Roadrunner.

Ishii replicated King’s lariats and grounded Fletcher. The Protostar sought a vertical suplex, but Takahashi took him out at the knees. Takahashi laid out the Bucks, but Alexander drove him into the ring apron. Fletcher piledrove King with an assist from the Bucks. Hologram reverse-hurricanrana’d Nick Jackson, yet he and Fletcher lay prone after countering a crossbody.

Takahashi lay waste to all four members of the opposing team. Alexander’s German Suplex and Fletcher’s Leaping Tombstone couldn’t keep Takahashi down. Flatliner by Takahashi supplanted Alexander’s casadora. D-Driver by Takahashi saw him pin Alexander for the win.

Post-match, Excalibur on commentary announced that Hiromu Takahashi would officially challenge Kyle Fletcher at Forbidden Door.

Swerve Strickland addressed AEW Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada

Renee Paquette met Strickland at the ramp, asking him how he’s feeling medically. Strickland seemed nonplussed about it, moreso focused on Okada. The Unified Champion emerged, predicting that his challenger’s knee would leave him with no chance of winning it. Strickland replied by asking him whose house it was—it was Andrew J Brady’s house, technically. Well, his music center, to be clear. Okada called Strickland an obscenity, and security had to separate them.

Death Riders backstage interview

Alicia Atout headed off the Death Riders, asking Moxley how he felt about Will Ospreay and Darby Allin recruiting Hiroshi Tanahashi. Moxley was quietly surprised. He and his entourage headed into a jobber locker room, which was very grimy, where the Young Bucks sat.

Tony Schiavone announces Forbidden Door Matches

Schiavone declared that Adam Copeland and Christian Cage would reunite against Kip Sabian and Nick Wayne. Also, the Death Riders would side with Gabe Kidd and the Young Bucks against Darby Allin, Will Ospreay, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and the Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi) in a Lights Out Steel Cage Match.

The Opps (Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, and Powerhouse Hobbs) (c) versus Los Faccion Ingobernables (RUSH, The Beast Mortos, and Dralistico) via submission for the AEW World Trios Championship

Hobbs staggered from Mortos, but made swift work on Dralistico. Joe tagged in to add to the punishment. Mortos and RUSH clobbered Shibata in the corner. He traded stiff strikes with RUSH, almost looking lost in the moment of violence. Hobbs, with a hot ta,g pounced on Mortos and Dralistico, with the former falling victim to a Spinebuster. Joe locked Dralisitco in with a Coquina Clutch as Mortos and RUSH struggled to escape Hobbs and Shibata, respectively.

Hangman Adam Page and MJF parking lot meeting

Renee Paquette attempted to ask Page some questions, but MJF struck him behind and slammed him into a nearby car. He told Page he would break him at Forbidden Door.

Closing thoughts

Forbidden Door is over a week away, but tonight felt like a go-home show. The blockbuster matches announced, plus tonight’s great in-ring work and promos, elevated so many storylines. Dynamite was stacked with a fun time from beginning to end.
