Why Damian Priest Should Win MITB

Men's MITB competitor Damian Priest prior to his match against Bad Bunny back at WWE Backlash.

WWE Money in the Bank (MITB) will feature the marquee men’s ladder match including seven competitors. Six of them have never held either the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship or the WWE Heavyweight Championship. MITB takes place on July 1 in London, UK. Damian Priest is head and shoulders above the rest of the superstars in the match when it comes to recent in-ring and on-mic work and storyline development.

Here, we detail exactly why Damian Priest should win the Money in the Bank (MITB) briefcase.

Money in the Bank: The Other Competitors

First, let’s explain why nobody else is at Priest’s level. Despite many fans on social media clamoring for LA Knight to win, he’s far from the best choice. Knight is really good at saying “yeah.” But if we are honest, he’s not even the best person at saying “yeah” on the WWE roster. That would be Otis.

LA Knight is loved by WWE fans because of how well he says “yeah” but at the moment that’s not enough to strap a guaranteed title shot to him.

Logan Paul would obviously be a great choice to win as it would continue to get non-wrestling fans engaged in WWE. It would also highlight what the MITB briefcase is to casual or lapsed fans. For more on the benefit of Paul winning click here. He’s a good choice but not as good as Priest. The main benefit of Priest over Paul would be that the briefcase would be present every week on WWE TV. Building anticipation for a cash-in.

Ricochet’s role in the MITB is to do a flip off a ladder onto loads of people. He’ll do this. He’ll do it well. Shinsuke Nakamura would be a worthy winner if WWE could commit to a solid push for him. But during his seven years on the main roster, WWE has proven it can’t.

Santos Escobar and Butch both have outside chances to win. They have backing in the LWO and Brawling Brutes that could help with a cash-in. Also, Butch winning in the UK would get a massive reaction. But none of these have done as much as Priest to earn a shot with the briefcase.

Why Damian Priest Must Win Money In The Bank

The Bloodline is all over the place at the moment. This makes Priest’s faction The Judgement Day the most dominant force in WWE. The Judgement Day is currently embroiled in feuds with Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins proving they are main event level.

The faction also has the numbers advantage over any other group in WWE. This means if Damian Priest had the MITB briefcase, the group could take out any champion at any time to help him take gold. This makes Priest the most realistic of the competitors to dethrone Seth Rollins as WWE World Heavyweight Champion. This would add exciting tension to WWE Monday Night Raw each week.

On-going Story

WWE has also started telling the story of friction between Priest and Finn Bálor. Bálor and Priest have already had tense conversations about Priest winning the MITB briefcase. Bálor faces Rollins for his title at Money in the Bank.

This all adds a lot of “what ifs” surrounding Priest winning the briefcase and Bálor winning the Championship. If Priest wins and Bálor doesn’t that adds to the tension between the two. This story is bound to be the next step in Priest stepping out on his own. Either as the undisputed leader of The Judgement Day or as a solo competitor. The MITB briefcase would only add to Priest’s belief that he shouldn’t take orders from anyone.

You Deserve It

Out of all the MITB competitors, Damian Priest has had greater and more high-profile matches. Logan Paul aside but we’ve covered that.

Priest’s “San Juan Street Fight” against Bad Bunny will make most match-of-the-year lists. That isn’t all because of Bad Bunny’s performance. Priest was absolutely perfect in the WWE Backlash bout and helped Bunny shine. It isn’t the first time Priest has been thrown into a high-profile match. As is normally the case he delivers on the big stage.

Priest was happy to play the heel in a rare opportunity to perform in front of his native fans in Puerto Rico.

Priest was muscle for Bad Bunny when he first appeared in WWE. He took that opportunity and has run with it. Priest worked extremely hard in his first WrestleMania match at the 37th edition of the show and again helped megastar Bad Bunny shine as the world watched.

Priest is a proven main event star and a reliable team player. He’s experiencing a push that should continue. He’s charismatic and great in the ring. Give him the briefcase
