AEW Rampage Results: In-Depth Match Analysis
AEW World Tag Team Championship: The Lucha Brothers (c) vs. The Butcher & The Blade
The Lucha Brothers would make their first title defense since winning the gold from The Young Bucks at All Out. It would be against The Butcher and The Blade as the duo were undefeated on the year and became the number one contenders in quick fashion. A tall task for Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo but one they were prepared for. The action between the two teams would be considered methodical compared to The Lucha Brothers match against The Young Bucks as both teams battled back and forth as it came down to the wire. Butcher and Blade utilized their smarts, tying the mask of Penta to the ring rope, forcing him to stay there as they attempted to finish off Fenix. Rather than let them lose their gold in their first defense, Penta did the unthinkable.
Penta El Zero Miedo took off his mask but would mask his face with his hand, hitting a Superkick to stun Butcher and Blade. Fenix would get the Frankensteiner pin combination to win the match. This is one of the most unique finishes you will see. As one can imagine with these two teams, it was a solid outing but certainly left more to be desired. If they were to face each other again, we are certain it would be that much better. A good first defense for the Lucha Bros in the end.
