AEW Collision Preview (1/17/26) – Maximum Carnage Collision

AEW Collision this upcoming week takes a break from its Arlington residence with a special Maximum Carnage edition from Phoenix, Arizona. Following Dynamite Maximum Carnage, there’s going to be plenty of fallout, overspill, and potential dovetailing. Post-Worlds End, we’ve already seen new partnerships, directions, and feuds growing through the January frost like new green shoots.

Plus, the quality of action isn’t dropping. Some of my early predictions proved true. Andrade El Idolo will re-debut on Collision. We’re getting the AEW debut of SkyFlight’s newest member, Zayda Steel. You can find out how and why the former MLW and Marigold competitor and WWE ID’s first signee, is the Real Deal here. She’ll face The Problem, Marina Shafir.

With Kyle Fletcher also returning to action, are we going to see hints of a future breakaway from the Don Callis Family? Will there be conflict with the Death Riders after the outcome of the Continental Classic? Let there be carnage.

Eddie Kingston and Ortiz vs The Grizzled Young Veterans

Since returning from injury, Eddie Kingston has primarily been a feature of Collision. Slowly and surely, the Mad King seems to be regaining confidence. After an excellent but failed attempt to beat Samoa Joe at Winter is Coming, Kingston has been preoccupied with the Grizzled Young Veterans (GYV). Kingston won both men in singles competition, but the tag team specialists are not so easily dissuaded.

The returning Ortiz, one of Kingston’s best friends and former tag team partner, has come to even the score. This past Collision, after weeks of standoffs and teases, the match is now official.

Rumours suggest that the Grizzled Young Veterans will be a regular feature of AEW’s tag division in 2026. After spending 2025 primarily on ROH, if the GYV can deliver, like the GOA and others before them, they will make their mark. At their peak, GYV are hard-hitting and relentless. Kingston and Ortiz will fight. They should be prepared to grit their teeth.

AEW World Trios Championship

Hangman Adam Page surprised JetSpeed on Wednesday night after the high-flyers lost out on an AEW World Tag Team Championship shot. Impressed by the duo and their excellent year of form in 2024, The Cowboy is recruiting them as partners as he looks to get his hands on Samoa Joe.

The Hangman accused Joe of cowardice on Dynamite after sending a bounty hunter to do is work. Noticeably, Joe was also absent from the lights-out tag match two weeks ago. Instead, relying on Opps Dojo trainees to do his bidding.

There’s the chance Joe switches out with HOOK, but would the Samoa Submission Machine really run scared for an official contest? With Powerhouse Hobbs and Katsuyori Shibata at his flanks, Joe’s undoubtedly going to think the odds favour him?

Will Page get his hands on Joe? If so, surely this is not the conclusion of their story just yet? Also, what if Page, Kevin Knight, and Speedball Mike Bailey win the championships? Page is a former AEW Trios champion. Victory would be an incredible moment for JetSpeed as fan favorites. What’s next for the AEW Trios division? So many possibilities. All without considering that this match could be a capital B banger.
