Jasper Troy Defeats El Grande Americano to Become the New WWE Speed Champion

Last night on WWE NXT, Jasper Troy caused a major upset, defeating El Grande Americano to become the new WWE Speed Champion.

The LFG Season One winner scorched earth in the Speed Tournament, decimating the impressive Zachary Wentz and Axiom to earn a shot at the champion. Americano had been the WWE Speed Champion for almost 200 days, having defeated Dragon Lee for the title over the summer.

The crowd was clearly behind Troy, but fans were also excited to see the flamboyant El Grande Americano. Accompanied by Los Americanos, the champion took his time, soaking in the adoration from the NXT crowd.

After some stiff back-and-forth offense, the action went ringside. Perhaps inspired by the devilish antics of now former Intercontinental Champion “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio, Troy made a beeline for his signature steel chains. But Rayo and Bravo weren’t having any of it. They interfered, attempting to confiscate Troy’s makeshift weapon, but it backfired. The referee misinterpreted the scuffle, banishing the pair from ringside – but not before they could sneakily hand Americano his own weapon.

Americano accepted his all too familiar metal plate, seeking assistance from the dark arts once more. But the referee was, again, alert to the dirty tactics of Los Americanos. Spotting Americano trying to hide the plate inside the turnbuckle, the referee intervened, which proved highly detrimental in the dying seconds of the match.

Before Americano could set his trap for Troy, the Texan powerhouse pounced, squashing him in the corner. A dazed Americano drifted into the center of the ring, where a Black Hole Slam was waiting to swallow him up. Before Americano knew it, any chance of a 200-day Speed Championship reign vanished into thin air. Troy came, Troy saw, and Troy conquered – and without the need for a steel chain Trojan Horse.
