John Cena Revealed as Playable Golfer in Upcoming PGA Tour 2K23 Game

John Cena. Multi-time WWE world champion. Hollywood movie star. Children’s book author.  Legendary wish-granter. Avid golfer…wait, what?

Among the many not-so-hidden talents of John Cena includes an enjoyment of golf. So much so, Essentially Sports last year penned an article referring to Cena as the ‘Tiger Woods of WWE.’ In an interview with Men’s Journal, Cena admitted to frequenting the golf course every now and again. He’s also taken part in WWE’s WrestleMania Charity Golf Tournament in the past. And it is for these reasons that John Cena’s inclusion as a playable character in PGA Tour 2K23 isn’t as random as it might seem on its face. Although, connection to golf or not, let’s be honest, seeing Cena in a golf game feels much like an RKO, that it came out of nowhere.

But that is exactly what is set to happen as 2K announced that Cena will join Steph Curry, and Michael Jordan among others, as playable celebrity golfers in the game. As GameInformer wrote, “It’s WrestleMania week, and one would think that the last sport to get into the spirit would be golf. However, PGA Tour 2K23 defies expectations by announcing that 16-time World Champion and Hollywood star John Cena is joining the roster as a playable golfer.”

On April 7th, just a few days after his WrestleMania showdown with Austin Theory, Cena will make his in-game debut, sporting very classic attire – a red shirt and white pants. Not the most flashy golf outfit but one would imagine that jorts aren’t exactly fitting for the links.

PGA Tour 2K23 isn’t the first time Cena has appeared in a non-wrestling video game. This year’s WWE 2K23 cover star and showcase mode feature performer, Cena made his Fortnite debut in 2022 as part of the Epic Games SummerSlam event, and joined Rocket League around the same time with a “You Can’t See Me” special octane car.
