Preview: IWS vs. GCW UnFnSanctioned (3/11/23) – Full Card, Start Time, How to Watch

IWS vs GCW UnFnSanctioned

This weekend, Game Changer Wrestling heads to Quebec for a showdown with Montreal-based promotion International Wrestling Syndicate. For those not in the know, IWS is one of the longest-running Canadian promotions, having been established in 1999. From PCO and Sabu to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, IWS produced a number of notable wrestlers. Furthermore, it’s been able to showcase a number of different styles including deathmatch and technical wrestling. IWS vs. GCW UnFnSanctioned, which will take place at L’Olympia, marks the first time that the two promotions collaborated.

There will be plenty of action to witness come Saturday night, too. Such action includes three title defenses, not to mention a litany of showdowns between International Wrestling Syndicate and Game Changer Wrestling talent. Tickets for UnFnSanctioned are still available to be purchased online. However, the action can also be seen live via FITE+; further information can be found below. Without any further delay, take a closer look at the scheduled card.

Indie Wrestler Hall of Famer LuFisto in Action

LuFisto, who was inducted into the inaugural Indie Wrestling Hall of Fame class last year, will be in action at IWS vs. GCW UnFnSanctioned. “The First Lady of Hardcore” has more than earned this distinction, becoming one of the most influential women’s wrestlers on the independent scene. Nowhere was this truer than in Combat Zone Wrestling, where she became the first woman to hold the CZW Iron Man Championship. She’s also had a prolific impact in women’s wrestling organizations such as SHINE Wrestling. Furthermore, she continues to wrestle periodically to this day. She’ll be in action this weekend when she battles Sawyer Wreck, who’s built a reputation as one of the premiere deathmatch wrestlers of the modern age. A victory over LuFisto would be incredible for Wreck’s growing reputation. Suffice to say, expect this match to be nothing short of competitive.

Melanie Havok Defends the IWS Women’s Title

This Saturday’s action will see Melanie Havok make her latest IWS Women’s Championship defense. Hailing from the city of Laval in Quebec, Havok is also known as “The Classy Kind of Trashy,” boasting an attitude all her own. It isn’t as if said attitude is unwarranted; after all, she’s held the aforementioned women’s title for over 200 days. During said reign, she’s had successful defenses over the likes of Kristara and Jessika Black. With this said, one has to wonder if her title reign is on its last days as she takes on Allie Katch. To say that Katch is a favorite among GCW audiences would be an understatement. In addition to being one of the promotion’s most prominent women’s wrestlers, she’s also one of its most dangerous, able to shift between a technical style and a penchant for deathmatch offense at a moment’s notice. Furthermore, Katch is a multi-time titleholder, most recently one-half of the GCW Tag Team Champions alongside EFFY. Can she add another singles title to her resume at IWS vs. GCW UnFnSanctioned?

An IWS Heavyweight Championship Main Event

In a match worthy of main event status, Tony Deppen challenges Benjamin Tull for the IWS Heavyweight Championship. For longtime GCW fans, Deppen is a man in no need of an introduction. His charismatic, oftentimes arrogant demeanor is only matched by his in-ring savvy, having wrestled many matches of the night across different venues. This level of talent has come with success, too; reigns as GCW Extreme Champion and ROH World Television Champion are just a few examples. Deppen intends to make L’Olympia the platform for his latest success when he battles the reigning IWS Heavyweight Champion. Tull is an independent wrestling veteran with more than two decades of experience to his name. He began his career in Northern Championship Wrestling, becoming a former NCW Champion, 6x Tag Team Champion, 2x Inter-Cities Champion, and 2x Cruiserweight Champion. Since then, he’s branched out in the Canadian indies, most recently becoming a 2x IWS Heavyweight Champion. Deppen is one of the champion’s biggest challenges to date, which should make this match all the more must-see.
