Match Point: Bishamon vs. The Dream Team for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships- NJPW 51st Anniversary Show ( 3/6/23 )

Bishamon vs The Dream Team

Match Point is an ongoing series at Last Word on Pro Wrestling, where we look at intriguing matchups and beyond. They may be dream matches, first-time matchups, or hotly anticipated rematches. Today’s edition will look at the main event of the 51st NJPW Anniversary show next month, as Bishamon vs The Dream Team for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships headlines the card. A first time ever tag match and an opportunity for the Rainmaker to make history.

Match Point: Bishamon vs. The Dream Team

Following their classic match this past weekend at NJPW Battle in the Valley, IWGP World Champion Kazuchika Okada laid out the challenge to pursue the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Titles alongside his greatest rival Hiroshi Tanahashi. The match was made official for March 5th, live on NJPW World. This tag title match will headline the 51st-anniversary show in Ota-ku, the birthplace of New Japan Pro Wrestling. CHAOS ( Hirooki Gobto & YOSHI-HASHI ) will be making their 2nd defense IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships after retaining against Shane Haste/Mikey Nicholls of TMDK in a really good match last month during the New Beginning tour. The Dream Team going after the tag titles within NJPW is a huge fresh of breath air for not only their tag division but the promotion as a whole.

The challengers have a chance to make history with this match if they’re victorious. Tanahashi would be IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champion for the first time in three years and Kazuchika Okada would be the first man to hold both the IWGP World Championship and one-half of the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships simultaneously. The newly formed “Dream Team” duo will definitely have tons of challenges coming from around the world once they accomplish the big main event win on March 5th. If there’s one thing that is certain in New Japan Pro wrestling is never bet against The Rainmaker in headlining big matches.
