John Hennigan Claims 36th Championship in Win Over Richards

John Hennigan

John Hennigan may be a name wrestling fans may remember. Or Johnny Nitro. Or Johnny Wrestling. Maybe Johnny Impact? Whatever you may call him, you can always call him successful. One of the purest wrestlers in the past 15 years, Hennigan is one of the more athletic wrestlers of our time.

John Hennigan is Underappreciated For His Time in the Ring

John Hennigan has not wrestled many pay-per-view main events but he puts on a show when he performs. That is what he did in MLW (Major League Wrestling). He defeated Davey Richards, a one-time ally, to win the MLW National Openweight Championship. He won the title with help from Taya Valkyrie, who hit Richards from behind with her World Women’s Featherweight Championship. Hennigan got the pin and captured the title.

John Hennigan was trained by Al Snow, Bill DeMott, Ivory, and Ohio Valley Wrestling. He is an athletic, acrobatic wrestler who relies on his movement to win matches. After winning Tough Enough, he made himself known by teaming with Joey Mercury and going by MNM, managed by Melina. Not only has he been a great singles wrestler, but he has proven that he can be just as effective as a tag team wrestler.

John Hennigan does not get enough credit for the wrestler he is. He has won in WWE, Impact Wrestling, Lucha Underground, MLW, the Independent Circuit, Pro Wrestling Guerilla, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, and AEW. Many matches and many titles that some may have forgotten. John Hennigan has won 36 championships during his career, both in singles and tag team competitions.  While he never got the main event push he should have received, Hennigan has made up for it by winning every promotion he has wrestled. Of his many title wins, most have been as a single wrestler, without winning the same title twice. Hennigan has put on five-star matches in Lucha Underground, letting people know that John Hennigan can still wrestle at a high level.

At 43, we have to wonder how many years John Hennigan will still be able to compete at the level he has competed at. Although still in great shape, the travel and bumps have been taking a toll on his body. Hennigan has to be considered one of the best-underrated workers in the business.
