AEW Interim World Championship Eliminator Series Announced to Crown Interim Titleholder

AEW Interim World Championship Eliminator Series

This past Friday, on AEW Rampage, new AEW World Champion CM Punk addressed the crowd. He made the unfortunate announcement that, due to injury, he would be stepping away from the ring indefinitely. However, the title wouldn’t be relinquished, leaving him the current AEW world titleholder. Later in the broadcast, it was announced that a number one contender battle royal would kick off AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, the winner going on to face #1 ranked competitor Jon Moxley for a shot at the Interim AEW World Championship at Forbidden Door on June 26. Earlier today, All Elite Wrestling released a statement detailing the upcoming AEW Interim World Championship Eliminator Series.

What to Know Regarding Upcoming Endurance to Crown Interim Titleholder

As mentioned earlier, a battle royal will open AEW Dynamite this Wednesday. This match will feature, according to AEW’s recent statement, “many of the top contenders in AEW,” with the winner going on to the main event of that very show. In said main event, the battle royal winner will face Jon Moxley, the #1 ranked competitor in the AEW men’s division, to see who will go on to compete for the Interim AEW World Championship at Forbidden Door. However, AEW’s press release unveiled interesting details regarding the involvement of New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

In the release, it was revealed that two NJPW competitors will face off in their own Eliminator Match. On June 12, at the company’s Dominion event, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Hirooki Goto will face off in said match, with the winner advancing to Forbidden Door. Whoever wins this Dominion encounter will face the winner of AEW’s June 8 Eliminator Match in the main event of Forbidden Door to crown the new Interim AEW World Champion. Once CM Punk is medically cleared to compete, he will face the winner of the AEW Interim World Championship Eliminator Series in an AEW World Championship Unification Match.
