Preview: GCW Downward Spiral (5/28/22)

GCW Downward Spiral

As part of the Full Tilt Weekend Collective, Game Changer Wrestling returns to Las Vegas, Nevada for GCW Downward Spiral. This promises to be an exciting event, though it’s fair to assume that the old adage of “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” need not apply here. There will be plenty of returning GCW favorites stepping into Silver Nugget Casino. Guest stars including Rina Yamashita and the former John Morrison of WWE – now going by Johnny Game Changer in GCW – round out the roster as well. Without any further delay, let’s take a look at the action set for this weekend.

John Wayne Murdoch and Alex Colon vs Rina Yamashita and Cole Radrick

Strange Bedfellows

Professional wrestling can make for unique combinations. For proof of this, look no further than this particular tag team match at GCW Downward Spiral. Alex Colon and GCW Ultraviolent Champion John Wayne Murdoch have been nothing short of heated rivals, especially during this year. Case and point, at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 6 Part 1 this past March, Murdoch bested Colon in the main event, ripping the Ultraviolent title from his grasp in front of a volatile Dallas crowd. While there’s no doubt that this rivalry will persist, on Saturday night, they will have to coexist. This is especially true given the caliber of opponents they’ll be up against: deathmatch enthusiasts Rina Yamashita and Cole Radrick. Tune in this Saturday to see which of these odd pairings will take home the win.

Matt Cardona vs Blake Christian at GCW Downward Spiral

All Heart Steps to the King

Following his loss at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 6 Part 2, Matt Cardona returns to Game Changer Wrestling to take on “All Heart” Blake Christian. Cardona’s success across the wrestling scene at large can’t be ignored. Currently, he holds championship gold in Absolute Intense Wrestling, IMPACT Wrestling, and the National Wrestling Alliance, just to name a few promotions. “The Deathmatch King,” as much as he may rub indie wrestling fans the wrong way with his arrogance, has been incredibly successful. In fact, one can argue that the arrogance in question is most palpable in GCW, where he’s treated as the promotion’s biggest villain. At GCW Downward Spiral, he steps up to a young wrestler that’s been building undeniable fan support in Christian.

To say that the Missouri-born high-flyer has been busy this year would be an understatement. REVOLVER, Warrior Wrestling, IMPACT Wrestling, Ring of Honor – these are just a few promotions where Christian has been able to ply his craft. This isn’t to take away from his extensive work in GCW, though. From Dante Leon to “Speedball” Mike Bailey to Biff Busick, Christian’s momentum in the company has only grown. Thus, it should come as no surprise that he’s been positioned to take on arguably the company’s top villain, Cardona, at Downward Spiral. Can Christian secure the win, bringing down Cardona’s ego a peg, or will the “Alwayz Ready” wrestling media entrepreneur emerge victorious at Silver Nugget Casino?

Joey Janela vs Johnny Game Changer at GCW Downward Spiral

The Shaman of Sexy Makes His GCW Debut

Johnny IMPACT, Johnny Mundo, Johnny Caballero, John Morrison – he is a man of many names. At GCW Downward Spiral, he makes his Game Changer Wrestling debut under the name of Johnny Game Changer. No matter which moniker one may know him best as, his accolades speak for themselves. “The Shaman of Sexy” was incredibly successful in WWE, winning 5 tag team titles and becoming a 3x Intercontinental Champion. Outside of WWE, he’s been a world champion on various platforms, Lucha Underground, IMPACT Wrestling, and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide included. A Johnny Game Changer performance promises to be nothing short of acrobatic; for roughly 2 decades, he’s dazzled fans with various high-flying and parkour-inspired techniques.

His opposition will ensure that he works for a victory, however, as he’ll be standing across the ring from “The Bad Boy” Joey Janela. If there’s anything that can be said about his GCW appearances, especially during this year, it’s that the hot-footed Janela competed against an eclectic group of names. From up-and-coming high-flyers such as Ninja Mack to indie favorites including Dark Sheik to established veterans like X-Pac, a Janela match in GCW is the wrestling match equivalent of a crapshoot. In other words, wrestling fans won’t know what to expect from “The Bad Boy” until GCW makes the announcement. Can Janela pick up a win over the expense of his debuting opponent? Will Silver Nugget Wisdom become known as The Palace of Wisdom? All questions will be answered come GCW Downward Spiral.

GCW Downward Spiral will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 28, 2022.
