Preview: Stardom – Nagoya Supreme Fight (1/29/22)

Nagoya Supreme Fight: MIRAI vs Syuri

Stardom runs its first Pay-Per-View event of 2022 when they head to the Dolphin’s Arena for Nagoya Supreme Fight.  This event will put a spotlight on all the recent Stardom changes including the additions of MIRAI and Thekla to Donna Del Mondo, as well as the fallout to Momo Watanabe’s heel turn. In addition to that, this card is loaded with title matches that are sure to deliver. Let’s take a look at the card for Nagoya Supreme Fight.

The Grudge: Queen’s Quest (Utami Hayashishita & AZM) vs Oedo Tai (Momo Watanabe & Starlight Kid)

Goddess of Stardom Championship: Fukuoka Double Crazy (Koguma & Hazuki) (c) vs Donna Del Mondo (Maika & Himeka)

Wonder of Stardom Championship: Saya Kamitani (c) vs Unagi Sayaka

Number One Contender: Mayu Iwatani vs Giulia vs Tam Nakano

World of Stardom Championship: Syuri (c) vs MIRAI

Thekla vs Mina Shirakawa

Since Syuri vacated the SWA Championship Thekla was quick to state her ambition to win the title.  She was countered by Mina Shirakawa who wants to win the title and embark on an overseas tour to defend the belt.  It seemed obvious that Thekla would walk away with the title following her standout debut, but Shirakawa aiming to take the title abroad for a tour could see her get a run with it.

Momo Watanabe vs Utami Hayashishita

Note: Due to card changes this match is now a tag match which sees AZM & Utami Hayashishita take on Momo Watanabe & Starlight Kid

Former Goddess of Stardom champions implode at Nagoya Supreme Fight when Hayashishita aims to take out a month’s worth of frustration on Watanabe.  This goes back to Momo turning on QQ and leaving the group for Oedo Tai.  She followed that up by sticking a wrench in her kick pad and punting AZM at the end of their match.  This blow to the face knocked AZM out and has seen her miss a string of shows due to the injury. This incident further served to rile up Utami Hayashishita whose rage towards Momo knows no bounds.  With this being lower on the card than expected there is quite a big chance we see some shenanigans go down involving Oedo Tai.

This match will now have another rivalry added to proceedings as AZM and Starlight Kid have been added to the chaos due to some recent changes to the card.

FWC (Hazuki & Koguma) vs DDM (Maika & Himeka)

Hazuki & Kogua after winning the tag titles

New champions Koguma and Hazuki will make the first defends of the titles at Nagoya Supreme Fight. Their first challengers Maika and Himeka were tag champions in early 2020 before losing them to ALK.  This will likely be a great match between two of the best tag teams in Stardom but it is very unlikely we see Koguma and Hazuki lose the straps right away.

Saya Kamitani vs Unagi Sayaka

Saya Kamitani is also making the first defense of a championship on this show. Her challenger is the Cosmic Angels member Unagi Sayaka who actually defeated Kamitani on the final day of the 5STAR Grand Prix 2021, eliminating Kamitani from contention to win.  Kamitani has been hesitant to grant Sayaka a title match but the latter’s insistence caused Stardom’s match makers to sanction the match. Saya Kamitani, like FWC, isn’t likely to lose in her first defense but Sayaka will be up for the challenge.

Mayu Iwatani vs Giulia vs Tam Nakano

This match will crown not one, but two number one contenders for the World of Stardom Championship. The winners will challenge for the title in March on Day 1 and 2 of Stardom World Climax at Sumo Hall.  The rules are simple, maybe, whoever picks up a win first is out of the match and will challenge for the title on Day 1 of Stardom World Climax.  The remaining two competitors will battle it out for the right to challenge on Day 1 of Stardom World Climax.

We expect Tam Nakano and Mayu Iwatani to be the two emerging from this match.  Giulia will no doubt be world champion soon but her journey there likely won’t start at Sumo Hall.  Giulia may also be busy dealing with the repercussions of adding two new members to Donna Del Mondo which is already causing some side-eyeing from already established members.

Syuri vs MIRAI

Syuri makes a very interesting first defense of her title against newcomer MIRAI (former Mirai Maiumi). MIRAI has shown good skills since debuting for Stardom but a title match with a wrestler on the level of Syuri is a whole new challenge for her. If she can live up to her potential then this could be a star-making match for MIRAI even if she is definitely losing in Syuri’s first defense.

The potential ramifications of this in the face of MIRAI being a newcomer to Donna Del Mondo are endless.  All can not be well in that group, but how long can they keep things together on the surface?
