#AndNEW: Sammy Guevara Wins TNT Championship

Sammy Guevara TNT Championship

Wednesday night saw a new TNT Champion crowned in the hometown of Brodie Lee, the late Dark Order leader who is synonymous with the championship. Sammy Guevara was able to outlast Miro, defeating him to win the first championship in his AEW career. He won after hitting the GTH followed by a 630 Splash. “The Redeemer” held the championship for 141 days. Guevara’s win makes him the fifth man to hold the TNT Championship and it is the sixth reign overall.

This match came about after Miro feuded with his best friend, Fuego Del Sol. In their first match for the TNT Championship, a potential contract was on the line for Fuego Del Sol. Miro defeated him despite a great underdog effort by the challenger. Sammy Guevara and Tony Khan still presented Fuego Del Sol with an AEW contract, angering “The Redeemer” that much more. That anger turned into another championship match for Fuego Del Sol against “God’s Favorite Champion,” but this time it saw Fuego Del Sol put his newly purchased car on the line. Miro gave the challenger even less offense in that one, dominating from start to finish to defeat him and take the car. This is when Guevara would not only lay down the challenge but finally get involved.

Guevara was attacked on last week’s Dynamite, only pushing him further to deliver a herculean effort to take the title from Miro. That’s exactly what he did as Guevara walked away as the new TNT Champion. Now it’s time to see what type of champion Guevara will be in his first reign.
