Dante Martin is AEW’s Latest Shining Star

Dante Martin leaps over Kenny Omega

All Elite Wrestling has become a hotbed for some of the best young talents in professional wrestling today.  The latest such talent appears to be a 20-year-old high flier, Dante Martin.  Martin arrived in AEW last year alongside his brother Darius Martin as the tag team Top Flight. The young duo was initially lost in a sea of tag teams due to the insane depth of AEW’s tag team division, however, an injury to Darius has allowed Dante Martin to shine in a major way.

Interestingly, Dante’s brother Darius was signed to Major League Wrestling as Air Wolf, which didn’t stop the brothers from teaming regularly on the independents.  They were known as the Flip Bros (Air Wolf & Angel Dorado) and primarily wrestled in Minnesota, notably, they held the United Glory title in Glory Pro Wrestling.

Upon their arrival in AEW, the brothers had unmasked and were no longer going by their Lucha-influenced names.  Given that fans were familiar with Darius from his time in MLW he got the most attention upon their signing, and in their early days the two were neck and neck in terms of quality.  But, the buzz around the two didn’t last as they were quickly resigned to wrestling primarily on AEW Dark.

This is where opportunity stuck for Dante Martin, an injury to his brother Darius left him without direction for some months.  Come May 2021, the door opened for Martin as he challenged Miro for the TNT Championship on Dynamite, despite losing in 3 minutes Martin put in a spirited performance and showcased his abilities.  Following that Martin wrestled Matt Sydal on Dynamite and again put in a good performance as the two delivered a match worthy of a spot on AEW Dynamite.

Following those two good performances, Martin was back on AEW Dark and Elevation for a bit before finding a home alongside the Sydal Brothers as a trios team. And that, dear reader, brings us to the match with The Elite.

Despite his good performances throughout the year, nobody was expecting this level of performance from Dante Martin.  But, throughout the 6-man tag match with 3 of AEW’s best there was an effort to give Martin as much of the spotlight as possible.  And Martin took his opportunity with both hands as he put on an eye-popping display of agility that was almost beyond human at times.  Despite losing, Martin showed out and outshined the AEW World Champion and AEW World Tag Team champions, in the process opening fans’ eyes to his talents and establishing himself as one of the top prospects in all of AEW overnight.

After Wednesday, Dante Martin is the name on everybody’s lips.  Those who have been paying attention have been impressed with him for some time but his brother getting signed first put him in the background, and in a weird way, his brother getting injured may end up being Martin’s launchpad to superstardom.  The future is bright for this young man and AEW is the perfect place for such talent to prosper to its fullest.
