Game Changer Wrestling‘s Homecoming Weekend continues with GCW Homecoming Part 2. The Showboat will see its second straight night of independent wrestling action, including stars from other promotions as well. On the previous night, viewers saw two championships defended, as well as a fair degree of violence and hunger from the stars involved in the show. Part 2 looks to be no different, picking up where Saturday’s action left off. Whether you’re planning on attending the show live or watching from the comfort of your home, here’s a rundown of the action to expect.

Pure Wrestling Comes to GCW
Making his first GCW appearance in nearly one year is current Ring of Honor star Jonathan Gresham. As the reigning ROH Pure Champion, Gresham adheres to the code of “Pure Wrestling” style, upholding what has been a tried and true tradition in the company. “The Octopus” won the title this past October, besting Tracy Williams in the finals of the ROH Pure Championship Tournament. He also found allies in The Foundation, a group that not only includes Gresham but Williams, Rhett Titus, and 2x ROH World Champion Jay Lethal. Their goal is simple: to bring Ring of Honor back to its roots. Gresham’s time in GCW, however, is nothing short of interesting. He started making appearances in 2019. His most recent dates back to this past October, when he defeated Lee Moriarty at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 4. GCW Homecoming Part 2 may also be considered a “homecoming” for the Code of Honor devotee.
At GCW Homecoming Part 2, Gresham is set to do battle with Starboy Charlie, a young man who has made waves since first appearing for the promotion last year. It wasn’t until 2021 when the high-flying newcomer began to catch fire, evidenced by his bouts against Chris Dickinson, Tony Deppen, Lio Rush, and others. It’s also worth noting that Charlie will enter this show coming off a match against Marko Stunt the night prior. Simply put, the California native has his work cut out for him. To secure a victory over the ROH Pure Champion, as well as a competitor as hungry as Gresham, will be no small feat. Nonetheless, it would prove to be a notch in Charlie’s proverbial belt as the young star, who hasn’t even hit 20 years of age, continues to build a name for himself.
The Wingman Debuts at Homecoming Part 2
GCW Homecoming Part 2 will be a night of firsts. Case and point, Cezar Bononi, who All Elite Wrestling fans may be familiar with, will make his Game Changer Wrestling debut this Sunday. Hailing from São Paulo, Brazil, Bononi began wrestling independently in his home country in 2014, specifically for the Brazilian Wrestling Federation. It was here where he became BWF Rei Do Ringue Champion. The following year, he was recruited by World Wrestling Entertainment. From there, he worked multiple NXT matches, even picking up a victory over fellow AEW star Andrade El Idolo. By April of 2020, Bononi would be gone from the company, making his way to AEW later that summer. Currently, he is part of the group known as The Wingmen, which also includes Ryan Nemeth, JD Drake, and “Pretty” Peter Avalon. At GCW Homecoming Part 2, however, Bononi enters The Showboat a solo star.
The mustachioed powerhouse has his work cut out for him this Sunday, as he takes on “The Dirty Daddy,” Chris Dickinson. Unlike Bononi, Dickinson has been a staple of GCW, dating back t0 2018. His record in GCW, throughout 2021, has been nothing short of impressive, too. Of the 11 matches he’s had in the promotion, he won 8. It’s also worth noting that, like Gresham, Dickinson is an ROH star. To be more specific, not only is he a member of VLNCE UNLTD, alongside Tony Deppen, Brody King, and Homicide, but he’s one-half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions alongside the latter. “The Dirty Daddy” has made an impression everywhere he’s been and his explosive offense opposite Bononi’s strength-based approach should make for an entertaining hoss fight. Keep an eye on this bout.
A First-Time Main Event Encounter
To say that Joey Janela has had a rough go of things would be an understatement. Those that watch AEW programming, especially AEW Dark and Dark: Elevation, will have seen “The Bad Boy’s” trajectory experience ups and downs. Even his bond with Sonny Kiss, his tag team partner and close friend, experienced hardships. However, based on their appearance on Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D.‘s The Waiting Room, Janela and Kiss seemed to have patched things up. Janela’s problems don’t end here, however, as he found himself in the crosshairs of “Silver Teeth Satan” himself, Atticus Cogar. Think back to GCW You Only Die Once; in the opening match, “The Bad Boy” defeated Ninja Mack before taking to the mic to address the fans in Dallas, Texas.
As he was doing so, Janela was attacked from behind by Cogar, who planted the AEW star with a headlock driver. From there, in a fashion that only Cogar knew how, he drove a handful of skewers into Janela’s skull. If their match at GCW Homecoming Part 2 didn’t have heat before, it certainly did following the events in Texas. What’s most interesting about this match is that it will be a first-time encounter. Janela had his run-ins with the 44OH, specifically former GCW World Champion Rickey Shane Page, during 2021. However, this will be the first time that he shares a ring with Cogar. Who will come out of this inevitably heated match the victor? Tune into the show this Sunday to find out.
GCW Homecoming Part 2 will take place in Atlantic City, New Jersey on July 25, 2021.
