The Money in the Bank 2021 kickoff show saw Rey and Dominik Mysterio defend the SmackDown Tag Team Championship against The Usos. The feud between Roman Reigns and his family and the Mysterios has intensified. It had become so volatile, in fact, that Rey, in defense of his son, faced Reigns within Hell in a Cell. From there, the tag team titleholders shifted their focus to The Usos, which led to tonight. Following a competitive encounter, as well as a brotherly assist, The Usos ended the night as 5x SmackDown Tag Team Champions.
With this loss, The Mysterios’ SmackDown Tag Team title reign has ended at 63 days. They won the titles this past May at WrestleMania: Backlash, where they bested The Dirty Dawgs, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. From there, they continued to defend the titles, even against The Usos on multiple occasions. In their third tag team title match against one another, The Usos showed that the third time is, indeed, the charm.

Though this is their fifth time holding the SmackDown Tag Team Championship, The Usos have held WWE tag team gold on seven occasions. In 2014, they won the WWE Tag Team Championship twice, once by defeating The New Age Outlaws in March and then The Miz and Damien Mizdow the following December. To say that Jimmy and Jey Uso are a decorated tag team would be an understatement. Will Roman Reigns leave tonight as the Universal Champion? If so, “The Head of the Table” will see his family entering this week’s SmackDown with collective gold in their possession.
