#AndNEW: Ryo Mizunami Wins Beyond The Sea Championship

Nanae Takahashi 25th Anniversary Special Beyond The Sea Championship Match ASUKA vs Ryo Mizunami

During SEAdLINNG’s show at Korakuen Hall to celebrate Nanae Takahashi’s 25th Anniversary, a new Beyond The Sea champion was crowned in the semi-main event. Ryo Mizunami returned from her excursion to AEW and immediately challenged ASUKA to a title match after defeating Takahashi to earn the opportunity.

After a tough battle in an incredible match, ASUKA couldn’t defend their title on their first defense as they fell to Ryo Mizunami in a little over 17 minutes.

This is the first time Mizunami has won the top prize in her home promotion. She has challenged before, but this was finally her time to break through and win. This is Mizunami’s first title since 2018 when she was in Pro Wrestling WAVE. Earlier this year, Mizunami won the AEW Women’s World Championship Eliminator Tournament, the same that her opponent of Sunday ASUKA competed in. 2021 has been one excellent year for Mizunami who should be one of the top names in all of Joshi moving forward.

Following the main event between Arisa Nakajima and Nanae Takahashi, Nakajima officially challenged for the title at next month’s Korakuen Hall show. If Nakajima manages to win, she will be the only person to have held the Beyond the Sea championship twice.
