AEW Dynamite Results: In-Depth Match Analysis

Christian Cage vs. Matt Sydal

Last week, Matt Sydal admitted to Christian Cage that he signed the open contract that Cage had from Tony Khan. What this match had going for it was that these two knew each other well. Both men were looking for some momentum as they were both entering the Casino Battle Royale at Double or Nothing. The action in this one was back and forth, more than you would probably imagine seeing Cage was hoping to show the world that he still could be the world champion he once was. Sydal seemingly had Cage’s number, reversing both the Spear and Killswitch on multiple occasions, but by the end of the match, Cage had his number. A Killswitch would call it, giving Cage his third win since signing with AEW and remaining undefeated.

This was a quality opener that didn’t go too long but instead allowed both to shine and gave Cage a much-needed win to continue his rise in momentum. With the Team Tazz attack following the match, one has to wonder if Cage will be able to win the Casino Battle Royale with Powerhouse Hobbs focused on Cage and solely him.

NWA Women’s World Championship: Serena Deeb (c) vs. Red Velvet

The return of Serena Deeb marked a different version of Deeb. In the past, Deeb had shown to be a more respectable, calm opponent who welcomed her challengers. But when she faced off with Red Velvet for the NWA Women’s World Championship, she was more aggressive than ever. The champion was on the attack from the moment the bell rang, bringing it to Velvet. Whether it was kicks or holds, Deeb was bringing it as Velvet looked to be without questions. But as Velvet has always shown, she had the heart to fight back. And what the beauty of this match saw was the heart of Velvet against the in-ring expertise of Deeb going back and forth. As Velvet began to find the upper hand, she got one of the better near falls you will see all week long on any show.

Deeb managed to kick out and was instantly angered, getting back on the attack and brutalizing the left leg of Velvet. She would lock in the Serenity Lock not once, but twice to force the challenger to tap out. This match was a great reminder as to why Deeb’s presence was missed the past few months. Not only was this an excellent match, but it elevated the likes of Velvet while giving us the greatness of Deeb as a competitor.
