#AndNEW: Santos Escobar Becomes Undisputed NXT Cruiserweight Champion

Santos Escobar NXT Cruiserweight Champion

Night Two of NXT TakeOver: Stand and Deliver kicked off with a Ladder Match between Santos Escobar and Jordan Devlin. Just as importantly, this match was for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship, which both men technically held. While Devlin held the title overseas, unable to travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, NXT crowed a new champion in his stead in Escobar. It’s important to note that both men have only met a handful times leading up to this event. With both men determined to become the undisputed NXT Cruiserweight Champion, only one man could retrieve both titles from above the ring. Ultimately, it was the leader of Legado Del Fantasma that etched his name in history.

Despite both men being part of the NXT cruiserweight division, Santos Escobar and Jordan Devlin didn’t bother much with elegant maneuvers. Granted, there were multiple instances of high-flying wrestling, including a breathtaking moonsault from the top of a ladder by Devlin. However, both men shared the same goal: to inflict as much pain on their opponent as possible. Escobar wasn’t alone, however. In fact, by recruiting the help of his partners, Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza, his NXT Cruiserweight Championship victory became that much more certain.

As Devlin ascended the ladder to retrieve the titles, he was suddenly attacked by Wilde and Mendoza, being sent to the outside. From there, Legado Del Fantasma continued their assault, sending Devlin into the steel steps. This allowed Escobar to take advantage, though Devlin stayed in the fight as much as he could have. The match reached its crescendo when both men fought on the ladder. This scuffle resulted in Escobar sending Devlin flying through a nearby ladder below. From there, Escobar retrieved the two purple titles, staking his claim as the undisputed NXT Cruiserweight Champion.

After over one year, following the COVID-19 pandemic, NXT finally crowed an undisputed Cruiserweight Champion at TakeOver: Stand and Deliver. With Legado Del Fantasma by his side, it’s safe to assume that Santos Escobar will have little trouble maintaining his status. With this in mind, there are several hungry competitors looking to make names for themselves, not only on NXT but 205 Live and even NXT UK, Devlin’s home brand, as well. Expect this story to develop in the coming weeks on NXT programming.
