NXT Tag Team Championship Match Confirmed for NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver

NXT Tag Team Championship TakeOver Stand & Deliver

On last week’s episode of WWE NXT, the team of Karrion Kross and NXT Champion Finn Balor faced the NXT Tag Team Champions, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. During the match, Burch suffered a legitimately separated shoulder. Due to the injury in question, the reigning champions were stripped of the NXT Tag Team Championship at 153 days. With this news, however, came uncertainty. What would be in store for the future of the NXT tag team division?

This past Tuesday, NXT General Manager William Regal took to Twitter to confirm the vacant status of the NXT Tag Team Championship. Furthermore, he stated that an update on the situation would be provided on NXT programming the evening after. It has been officially confirmed: at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, new NXT Tag Team Champions will be crowned in a triple threat match. The three teams competing in the match will be MSK (Wes Lee and Nash Carter,) Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake and Zack Gibson,) and Legado Del Fantasma (Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza.) By the end of night one of the show, one team will win the vacant NXT Tag Team Titles.

It’s important to note that these three teams were involved in the 2021 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic earlier this year. Legado Del Fantasma made it to the semifinals, where they eventually lost to MSK. The finals saw MSK battle Grizzled Young Veterans who were in their second final in a as many years. In short, Drake and Gibson were seen as the favorite team going into the finals. In what many fans saw as a shocking conclusion, the new tandem in MSK defeated the former NXT UK Tag Team Champions. With this victory, MSK earned a future opportunity at the NXT Tag Team Championship.
