Charlotte Flair Named Lead in ‘Walking Tall’ Remake

Charlotte Flair in Walking Tall

WWE Superstar Charlotte Flair has been announced as the lead for an upcoming remake of the 1973 film Walking Tall, which was based on the life of former pro wrestler Buford “The Bull” Pusser, who retired in 1962 to become the sheriff of his hometown in Adamsville, Texas. Many WWE fans will remember that another WWE Superstar, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, played the lead role in the 2004 remake of the same film (although ironically, the main character was changed to a former US Army Special Forces named Chris Vaughn from a pro wrestler).

Charlotte will be the lead role and, like The Rock’s remake, will be a newly named character, but it will once again revolve around a tough sheriff taking on their town’s corruption. According to Deadline, who broke the news on Monday, Charlotte Flair will play “a Tucson cop who finds herself caught in a web of fraud, exploitation, and murder, and is forced to go full vigilante to protect her home town from falling victim to modern corruption.”

The film is being written and produced by David Eick, best known as one of the executive producers of the 2000s Battlestar Galactica remake series and producing the 1990s Hercules and Xena: Warrior Princess series. The film will also be co-produced by WWE Studios (who also co-produced The Rock’s 2004 version). It will be Charlotte Flair’s first leading role, and only her second appearance in the film world, after appearing in 2017’s Psych: The Movie as Heather Rockrear. The new updated remake of Walking Tall is slated to be a TV movie to air on the USA Network.
