On tonight’s episode of SmackDown, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode struck gold. Also known as the Dirty Dawgs, Ziggler and Roode challenged Street Profits, Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford, for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. This feud has been building for a few weeks now; the week prior, Ziggler and Roode stormed Street Profits’ New Year’s Day Smoke-Tacular, leaving the champions laying. One week later, Dawkins and Ford’s luck worsened; by the end of tonight’s show, Ziggler and Roode stood tall as the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions.
During this SmackDown Tag Team Championship match, Ford injured his leg. Despite intervention from Dawkins and the official, Ford pushed forward, despite the fact that he had just become a one-legged man in a vital championship defense. As the match continued, Dawkins was laid out on the outside. This allowed the Dirty Dawgs to double-team an already injured Ford. Despite a spirited effort by Ford, he fell victim to a spinebuster/Zig Zag combination. One pinfall later and new SmackDown Tag Team Champions were crowned.

Despite their title reign ending on this night, Street Profits had a solid run as SmackDown Tag Team Champions. They first claimed the titles following the recent WWE Draft in October. When they moved to SmackDown, Street Profits swapped their RAW Tag Team Titles for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles which, at the time, were held by The New Day. Street Profits’ reign with said titles reigned at 89 days. Prior to this, as RAW Tag Team Champions, Street Profits enjoyed a lengthier reign at 224 days, besting duos such as The Viking Raiders and Angel Garza and Andrade along the way.
Post-match, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode kicked a fallen Dawkins and Ford out of the ring, celebrating in the ring. Now, as the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions, what is next for the Dirty Dawgs? Street Profits will undoubtedly be looking to reclaim their titles. However, with other challengers waiting in the wings, including Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura, it’s clear that the new titleholders have their hands full. Tune into SmackDown every Friday to learn more.

With this victory, Ziggler is now a three-time Tag Team Champion in WWE. He had previously won the RAW Tag Team Championship twice, once with Drew McIntyre in 2018 and Roode in 2019. Coincidentally, like Ziggler, Roode was also a two-time RAW Tag Team Championship. In addition to the aforementioned win with Ziggler in 2019, the year prior, he won the same title alongside Chad Gable during their brief stint as a tag team.
