Sasha Banks is best known for her abilities inside a professional wrestling ring. Although she is most recognized for her time inside the squared circle, Sasha Banks is a crossover star. From having the music industry in her blood to having music written about her, and acting as part of the Disney Plus series The Mandalorian the WWE wrestler is a media crossover star.
Entertainment Is In Her Blood
Sasha added to her family’s legacy in the entertainment industry when she started wrestling. She is related to notable music industry personalities such as Snoop Dogg. He helped her craft her in-ring character and has even taken part in her live entrance. During Banks’ entrance at Wrestlemania 32, the newly inducted WWE Hall of Fame member Snoop Dogg performed his cousin’s theme as she made her way to the ring. Sasha would lose her match against Charlotte and Becky Lynch for the inaugural WWE Women’s Championship. Other notable cousins of Banks are record producer Daz Dillenger as well as singers Ray J and Brandy Norwood.
The Mountain Goats
Sasha is well known for being a wrestling fan from a young age. She has pointed to Eddie Gurrero as a major influence on her and was in attendance at Monday Night Raw on the night of his death and tribute. The stories of her and her brother growing up wrestling fans, translated to the theme of a song from the indie rock band The Mountain Goats. The band released a concept album about pro wrestling entitled Beat the Champ in 2015. After its release Banks tweeted the band asking “Where is my song”? In turn, the band delivered the song”Song for Sasha Banks”. The track told the story of Sasha and her brother watching Chris Jericho on TV, and her desire to become a professional wrestler. “Song for Sasha” released as a non-album single in 2018.
Becoming a Disney Star
Sasha became a full crossover star in 2020. She made her television acting debut during season two of the Disney Plus series “The Mandalorian”. First appearing in the third episode of the second season Sasha portrayed the charter Koska Reves. Banks’ character along with Clone Wars and Rebels veteran Bo-Katan Kryze assisted the titular character out of a tight situation involving a deceitful boat captain. She reprised her role in the season two finale, again helping the titular character out of a tight spot. Both episodes showed her character in plenty of combat scenes, rivaling her moves in the ring.
Between her lineage in the music industry, being the subject matter of songs, and appearing on Disney Plus television, Sasha has cemented herself as a crossover star. Sasha has proven she is able to perform in the ring and on the television screen. Will Banks crossover into other mediums? Time will tell, but until then she has plenty of appearances to view and listen to both inside and outside the ring.
