Former NWA/WCW Star “Nasty” Kat LeRoux Passes Away

Sad news for fans of Jim Crockett‘s Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling in the 1980s and the early days of World Championship Wrestling (WCW), as “Nasty” Kat LeRoux, one of the stars in the NWA women’s division in the 1980s, has passed away following recent health troubles involving her liver. Her death was first reported by fellow women’s wrestler Brittany Brown on her Facebook on Tuesday afternoon.

A student of Killer Kowalski, Kat LeRoux made her debut in 1986 and quickly found a foil to her heel persona in rising babyface star Misty Blue, battling in the Mid-Atlantic area, as well as Championship Wrestling From Florida. She also debuted that same year for Verne Gagne‘s American Wrestling Association (AWA), competing in a Battle Royal at AWA WrestleRock that year in a match that also featured future legends like Sherri Martel, Candi Devine, Luna Vachon, and Joyce Grable.

In 1987, she challenged Misty Blue unsuccessfully for the NWA United States Women’s Championship during that summer’s Great American Bash tour. She continued to work for the company following Ted Turner’s acquisition of Jim Crockett’s territories and the creation of WCW, competing with WCW until 1991. During that time, she formed a tag team with Linda Dallas, called The Nasty Girls, working both WCW and Tor Berg‘s short-lived Ladies Professional Wrestling Association (LPWA) until it closed down in 1992. She would continue wrestling for a few more years before quietly retiring sometime in the mid-1990s.

Last Word on Pro Wrestling sends our deepest condolences to Kat LeRoux’s family, as well as her friends, peers, and colleagues in the pro wrestling community.
