Preview: Friday Night SmackDown (6/12/20)

Daniel Bryan vs AJ Styles on Friday Night SmackDown

It’s that time again.  As the weeks continue to fly by, these Friday Night SmackDown shows continue to come quick and fast.  The past few weeks have seen WWE‘s blue brand hit a noticeable run of form.  Two weeks removed from an excellent-though-controversial episode of SmackDown, which saw real life matters played out on the screen, hopefully this week’s can keep up the pace.  Additionally, with NXT and UFC alumni Matt Riddle poised to debut soon, there is much to be excited about.  Speaking of things to be excited about, the single segment/match advertised in advance of this week’s SmackDown promises to deliver.  Don’t believe me? Take a look.

WWE Intercontinental Championship: Daniel Bryan vs AJ Styles

This match was actually recorded a number of weeks ago.  With Sami Zayn unable to compete during the on-going COVID-19 epidemic, his Intercontinental Championship was stripped from him.  Because of this, over the past month, we have had a tournament to crown a new Intercontinental Champion.  Challengers have come and gone, leaving us with just two: Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles.  We recently took an in-depth look at this match, assessing the two opponents and who we think should win.  Accounts from those who were in attendance for the match during recording have cited that it was “brilliant”.  A potential Match of the Year contender, it has been claimed.  Therefore, it has much hype to live up to.  Both Styles and Bryan are two of the greatest in-ring performers of all-time; certainly of the 21st century.  If anyone can live up to the hype and deliver a stellar, championship worthy performance under the current circumstances, it’s them.  Don’t miss this match on Friday Night SmackDown.
