Ricky Starks, Former NWA Television Champion, Now Free Agent

On Monday’s episode of Busted Open Radio, Ricky Starks confirmed rumors of his departure from the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). The former NWA World Television Champion mentioned that he was no longer part of the NWA and was now one of the “hottest free agents” in wrestling. Starks stated that his contract had come up and both sides mutually agreed to part ways, but Starks insisted the parting was not bitter. On Monday, Starks released a vignette on his Social Media to hype his new focus on being a free agent.

One of the top prospects in the US indies, Ricky Starks was an early signee with the NWA, signing with the company in August of 2019 after appearing at the NWA 70th Anniversary Show PPV the previous fall, where he competed in a Fatal Four Way for the NWA National Championship that was ultimately won by Wille Mack. With the launch of NWA Powerrr in the fall of 2019, Starks would become one of their young stars, winning the NWA World Television Championship in the tournament finals, against Trevor Murdoch, at NWA Hard Times on January 24 of this year. On the March 3 edition of NWA Powerrr, he would lose the title to Zickey Dice. Starks came up through the vibrant Texas independent scene and has worked for many of the top US indies, as well as in the UK. In the spring of 2019, he did a tour with DDT Pro in Japan. Ricky Stark has appeared in several of Sammy Guevara‘s vlogs in the past, with some wondering if he could potentially be the surprise ninth entrant in this Sunday’s Casino Ladder Match at AEW Double or Nothing?
