The Elite Deletion: Matt Hardy Invites Chris Jericho to Compound

It appears the cinematic world of the Broken Matt Hardy universe will be appearing in its third major promotion. On Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, “Broken” Matt Hardy appeared in a promo from the Hardy Compound, where he challenged Chris Jericho to face him in an Elite Deletion match.

The Broken Universe began during Matt Hardy’s run with TNA/IMPACT Wrestling in 2016 and on July 5, 2016, his feud with brother Jeff Hardy reached a crescendo with Final Deletion, the first cinematic Broken special filmed at the Hardy Compound.

TNA would return to the cinematic special with Total Nonstop Deletion on December 15, 2016, that would feature the Tag Team Apocalypto. The Broken Hardys would leave TNA in early 2017 and make a triumphant return to the WWE.

The Broken Universe would be revisited briefly during Matt Hardy’s WWE return, but as “Woken” Matt Hardy. In a highly anticipated story with Bray Wyatt, the third Broken Universe special, Ultimate Deletion, aired on March 19, 2018, to headline RawWWE would return to the realm with the House Hardy Halloween special on the WWE Network, but following a short run in a tag team with Wyatt, “Woken” Hardy quietly disappeared from the WWE Universe.

With the current COVID-19 situation, AEW recently announced the cancellation of the scheduled Blood & Guts Match (essentially AEW’s version of the original WCW War Games) between the Inner Circle and Hardy & The Elite, it would appear that a side story out of that battle may eventually be heading to the Hardy Compound in Cameron, North Carolina and that AEW could become the third promotion since 2016 to feature a Broken Universe cinematic fairy tale.
