Preview: AEW Dynamite (4/8/20)

AEW Dynamite

All Elite Wrestling is back once again with yet another exciting installment of AEW Dynamite.  In-line with global action against the COVID-19 pandemic, numbers in attendance have to be low.  Stricter measures means AEW remains filming in an undisclosed location.  Despite AEW having no crowd over the past few weeks, they have succeeded in putting on some great matches.  Can they do it again? Well, here’s what they have in-store for tonight.

Kenny Omega & Michael Nakazawa vs Best Friends

Current AAA Mega Champion, Kenny Omega, was victorious over Trent last week.  The two put on a highly entertaining, action-packed twenty minute match.  This week, the rivalry continues; this time in the shape of a tag team match.  Trent teams with long-time partner, Chuck Taylor and will be joined by Orange Cassidy at ringside.  Orange Cassidy is quite possibly the most over act on the roster currently and everything he touches seems to turn to gold.  Omega teams with ring veteran, Michael Nakazawa – who hasn’t experienced the most positive record since joining the Florida based company.  However, if Nakazawa is to return to winning ways, there’s no better partner to do it with than Kenny Omega.  This should be yet another fun match in this feud.

Hikaru Shida vs Britt Baker

These two women last fought each other back in November of last year.  Though Hikaru Shida won that match, this one could really go either way.  Britt Baker has won her last two matches in AEW; with partner Penelope Ford against Riho and Yuka Sakazaki (02/29/20) and against Miranda Alize (02/26/20).  Shida also comes into the match off the back of two wins.  She defeated Anna Jayy just last week and Kris Statlander, Penelope Ford and Riho (03/18/20).  The form of these two will certainly make this a must-win match for both.

Lance Archer In Action

Lance Archer debuted with a dominant display last week.  In a perhaps unfair match-up, Marko Stunt was defeated by the big man in three minutes and forty-four seconds.  Accompanied by WWE Hall of Famer, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Archer is clearly being built to take the warpath.  What lies in store for AEW’s latest acquisition? With the dominant display of last week, expect a disgruntled Luchasaurus to confront Archer.  If not this week, then sometime soon.

The Exalted One In Action

AEW Dynamite

When the former Luke Harper was granted his release from the WWE, it was an inevitability that he would end up on the AEW Dynamite roster.  The months of teasing surrounding the elusive “Exalted One” led to months of speculation it would be either Brodie Lee or Matt Hardy.  Of course, it turned out to be Lee.  Since arriving to the All Elite Wrestling ring, he has shown us what he is capable of.  More than just a big man, Lee is someone with immense talents both in and out of the ring.  He expressed his frustration towards the WWE on Chris Jericho‘s Talk is Jericho podcast.  The Exalted One of the Dark Order is now showing what they were missing out on.  Tonight, he returns to action and I would not want to be his opponent.

Cody vs Shawn Spears

AEW Dynamite

Shawn Spears and partner, Sammy Guevara, last week defeated the team of Cody and Darby Allin.  In a lengthy bout where Guevara and Spears gambled mid-match, the match ended with Allin taking a chair shot to protect Cody.  The match itself was good and played off the prior rivalries of all four men involved.  This week, Spears and Cody face off one-on-one.  Cody is currently enduring a “win one, lose one” streak that dates back to his defeat to MJF at AEW Revolution.  Does that mean he wins here tonight?  Does Spears have a win against the head-honcho in him? Tune in to AEW Dynamite tonight to find out.
