Report: Jushin “Thunder’ Liger, Bella Twins Headed to WWE Hall of Fame

In a tweet sent out by the Twitter account Wrestlevotes, who has broken many stories in the past, WWE is planning on announcing a New Japan legend and a controversial tag team into this year’s Hall of Fame Class of 2020, joining Batista and New World Order (“Hollywood” Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash & X-Pac).

Jushin “Thunder” Liger, a legend in not only NJPW but in all of professional wrestling, is an odd choice. After all, the 11x IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion has only appeared once in a WWE ring – against Tyler Breeze at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn in 2015. But now that he’s free of NJPW, WWE is reportedly looking to add him to their Hall of Fame. And while they won’t be able to air footage of his time in NJPW (unless they work out a deal), they do own all his footage from his six years of appearances in WCW, including kicking of Monday Nitro against Brian Pillman. Liger retired from in-ring competition this past month at Wrestle Kingdom 14.

Nikki & Brie Bella, the Bella Twins, are a controversial choice in some aspects, as to many, they represent everything that was wrong about the WWE Divas division during a period when wrestling wasn’t a big priority for the women. While this induction will draw the ire of many fans, there’s no denying the mainstream popularity the Bellas achieved in their careers. Wrestling is all about being “over” more than anything else, and there’s no denying that a majority of the WWE Universe were down with the Bellas.
