Preview: PWA Black Label – Sword Fight (1/11/20)

After an incredible 2019 which saw PWA Black Label rise to the top of the pack in Australian wrestling, they return to Max Watts this Saturday to jumpstart 2020 with their event, Sword Fight!

Ricky South vs Mat Rogers

Two men who simply love to throw heavy hand go toe to toe this weekend. Both Ricky South and Mat Rogers have been standouts in the PWA heavyweight division, with both feeling they deserve a shot at unseating PWA Champion Caveman Ugg. After this weekend one man will take one big step closure to their dream, whereas the other may not take another step ever, period.

BSCG vs Gavin McGavin & Edith Night

The Black Shirt Cool Group (Concrete Davidson & Shazza McKenzie) vs Gavin McGavin & Edith Night

After months of the #SignShazza movement flooding social media, one of Australia’s premier talents finally put pen to paper. In a somewhat unexpected move rather than signing with an international promotion, Shazza McKenzie has chosen to sign with the “coolest” group in wrestling today, The Black Shirt Cool Group. With McKenzie now joining the likes of Concrete Davidson, Ricky South and Jax Jordan, the BSCG is looking stronger than ever. A trait which they’ll look to prove this week when they take on the Perth-based Explosive Pro Wrestling (EPW) team of Gavin McGavin and Edith Night. This match will mark a return to PWA for McGavin, having previously competed for the promotion multiple times. For his partner though, this will be her debut, so she will be hoping to get off to a flying start. What better start than with a big victory over McKenzie and Concrete Davidson?

Bel Pierce vs Kingsley

After an unsuccessful outing in tag team action at the last show, Bel Pierce was told in no uncertain terms by her then-partner Tree Hugger Luchi that their partnership was over. As such, Piece has now refocused herself on singles glory. As she looks to restart her singles career at Sword Fight, another young lady will be making her PWA singles debut. That lady being Kingsley, who is best known as the flag bearer for Jack J. Bonza or as one half of LUX alongside Xena. Which woman will come out on top and immediately begin climbing the ladder towards the PWWA Championship?

Streak vs Streak: Sam Osborne vs Big Fudge

This matchup is a rather unusual streak versus streak affair, in that it pits two losing streaks against each other. Throughout their time in PWA, neither Sam Osborne nor Big Fudge is yet to pick up a pinball or submission victory. Whilst both men have been in prominent positions, a victory still seems to allude them. In a recent twist, the Marnell Management Agency (MMA) have set their sights on Osborne as a prospect for the future. It will be interesting to see how they play into this one. Finally, for one of them, the losing streak will come to end this weekend.

PWA Tag Team Championships: The Velocities (Jude London & Paris De Silva) (c) vs MK Ultra (Kai Drake & Michael Spencer)

In recent clashes, it would seem that the new team on the block, MK Ultra (Kai Drake and Michael Spencer), have had the number of the PWA Tag Team Champions, The Velocities (Jude London and Paris De Silva). Right before The Velocities captured the titles they suffered a shock loss to MK Ultra, while just last month at Liger Down Under, a member of MK Ultra once again pinned a member of The Velocities. Will the trend continue this week or will the champions finally come up with a solution to their bogey team?

PWWA Championship: Jessica Troy (c) vs Steph De Lander

After securing the number one contendership for the PWWA Championship, Steph De Lander finally gets her championship match against Jessica Troy at Sword Fight. ‘The Python Powerhouse’ has been on a tear through PWA recently, and will look to keep that momentum rolling on Saturday. With an obvious power advantage, De Lander could prove to be Troy’s toughest challenge to date. ‘The Arm Collector’ Jessica Troy will have to use all of her technical prowess and quickness to overcome De Lander. As one of the top women in the country, Troy will head into this clash filled with self-confidence. These two ladies could very easily steal the show with a match of the night encounter.

The Babes (Matty Wahlberg & Carter Deems) vs The Nations (Mick Moretti & Jack J. Bonza)

At The Prefects’ 18th Birthday Party, Matty Wahlberg held a Colosseum tournament victory celebration. During which the inaugural Colosseum tournament victor Mick Moretti interrupted, only to receive a challenge from Wahlberg for a clash for Sword Fight. However, following a heated at the PWA Academy shortly afterwards, Moretti would refuse to give Wahlberg the requested singles match. Instead, Moretti countered Walhberg’s challenge with a challenge of his own, a tag team match. Subsequently this weekend PWA fans will now see the former PWA Tag Team Champions & 2019 PWA Match of the Year winners The Nations (Moretti and Jack J. Bonza) taking on PWA’s Wrestler of the Year, Matty Wahlberg, and the Newy Pro Heavyweight Champion Carter Deems. Whilst this is not the dream singles match encounter that many had hoped for, it is none the less a sure-fire banger. Should The Babes be victorious, there would seemingly be nothing standing in the way of a clash between Wahlberg and Moretti in the near future.
