Preview: PWA Black Label – The Prefects 18th Birthday Party (12/7/19)

The Prefects

Max Watt’s Sydney is set to play host to one of the most riotous birthday celebrations ever! This weekend The Prefects (Billy Preston & Jimmy Townsend) finally turn 18, and thus “legally” enter the venue, so to celebrate Pro Wrestling Australia (PWA) is allowing them to host their birthday party at the final Max Watt’s show of 2019.

As part of the celebrations, The Prefects have been given one incredible birthday present by PWA management… they will be challenging the newly crowned PWA Tag Team Champions The Velocities (Jude London & Paris De Silva).

Also set to feature on the card is the homecoming of former PWA young gun Sean Kustom, who has been plying his trade over in the UK recently.

The PWA Heavyweight Championship is also set to be on the line during the party as reigning champ Caveman Ugg answers the challenge of number 1 contender Shazza McKenzie.

Let’s quickly break down the currently announced card in more detail though.

Mikey Broderick vs Adam Hoffman

The war between TMDK and The Nations continues to roll on this weekend.

The tensions between these two groups was first kicked off by Broderick and this weekend he looks to get the upper hand finally by defeating Hoffman.

Rhys Angel vs Mat Rogers vs Sam Osborne vs AJ

With his Speed Force brothers, The Velocities, preoccupied defending their tag team titles later in the evening Mat Rogers looks to unleash his aggression on four PWA young guns.

Whilst Sam Osborne has been rising through the ranks of PWA’s roster quickly. Although he did suffer a bit of a set back in his momentum. Losing in the first round of PWA’s Colosseum tournament. A win this weekend will get him back on the path towards PWA gold.

For youngsters Rhys Angel and AJ this is going to be an incredibly tough matchup. Going up against two men much larger than themselves Angel & AJ will need to use their quickness in order to gain any advantage. A victory by either Angel or AJ here would immediately make them a threat to everyone on the PWA roster.

Kai Drake & Michael Spencer vs Tree Hugger Luchi & Bel Pierce

Over the last few months, the newly formed team of Drake & Spencer have been asserting themselves within the tag division. Whilst much of the tag team fanfare has been directed towards the likes of The Velocities, The Nations and The Babes (Matty Wahlberg & Carter Deams) this new team has been quietly going about their business and picking up win after win.

This weekend the team of Tree Hugger Luchi and Bel Pierce will look to derail that momentum. As a win would immediately put themselves on the tag team map. Both Luchi and Pierce are incredibly talented singles performers. But how will they fare as a team.

Can the peaceful glitter duo stop the dragon prince?

Jack J. Bonza vs Robbie Eagles

In a prelude to their epic tag team encounter, set to also feature Jyushin Liger and Bad Luck Fale, two of the most prominent names in PWA are set to square off one on one.

Both Jack J. Bonza and Robbie Eagles have long been at the forefront of PWA. Helping to grow the company and push it to new heights. Whilst these two men have had similar professional paths through PWA, both holding the PWA Tag Team and PWA Heavyweight Championships during their career, their personalities couldn’t be any more opposed.

For Bonza, he has always been loyal to his fellow members of The Nations faction. Whereas Eagles has a somewhat checkered past when it comes to allies.

Whereas during his career Eagles has turned on almost every ally he’s ever had. The first instance being when he betrayed his former best friend, and Light Speed Express tag team partner, Mat Diamond. Then during his time in NJPW Eagles also turned on his Bullet Club brethren when the opportunity arose. Who’s to say whether his newfound allegiance with CHAOS will be long-lived or not.

It’s been a while since these two men last crossed paths in a one on one capacity so it will be interesting to see who has developed more since their last clash. With a tag team encounter coming up just one week after this one don’t be shocked if we see some late or post-match shenanigans in this affair.

Ricky South vs Sean Kustom

When Sean Kustom left Australia over two years ago he looked set to become the next big thing in PWA. However, he had his heart set on finding fame in the UK and we can’t downplay the achievements he has had abroad.

In Kustom’s absence, a new crop of incredible youngsters have risen through the ranks and filled the void he left behind. One such man being ‘Tuff Stuff’ Ricky South who employs a hard-hitting style reminiscent of the legendary Mitsuharu Misawa.

By returning to face someone of South’s ilk Kustom is clearly not looking for an easy “welcome home” matchup. This one very well could prove to be the match of the night as two of the country’s most talented youngsters square off for the first time.

PWA Tag Team Championship: The Velocities (c) vs The Prefects

Over the course of the past year, The Prefects have been using their fake ID’s to enter PWA events and get themselves involved in matches. Along the way, the duo has been racking up a rather impressive winning record. Thanks in large part to their devastating School Boy Pin. A move which nobody has been able to kick-out of yet. As a reward for their tenacity and The Prefects have been granted a match against the newly crowned champs.

After lawing the titles away from The Nations back at Black Label: Break Their Backs & Make Them Rumble The Velocities are now set to defend their championships against a very different type of opponent.

Can The Velocites avoid the dreaded School Boy or will we see new champs crowned once again?

PWA Heavyweight Championship: Caveman Ugg (c) vs Shazza McKenzie

https://www.facebook.com/PWAAustralia/videos/473543896702749/

For years Shazza McKenzie has been trying to prove to the world that she is not just one of Australia’s best female wrestlers but one of the country’s best in general. This weekend she has the ultimate opportunity to shatter the glass ceiling and become the first-ever female PWA Heavyweight Champion.

Since arriving on the scene Caveman Ugg has decimated the competition by seeing off the likes of Jonah Rock, Robbie Eagles, Jack J. Bonza, Matty Wahlberg and Davis Storm. This weekend though Ugg will come toe to toe with a competitor who has more to prove than anybody before.

These two have crossed paths a few times in the past, but never one on one. With so much on the line for McKenzie, this could finally prove to be the one challenger Ugg can’t overcome.
