The NXT Recap (11/20/19)

Open door policy. Those three words will dictate this episode of NXT, and whatever unpredictable chaos that comes with this. Triple H laid down the gauntlet, now let’s see who from the main roster picks it up on the go-home episode of NXT.

BECKY LYNCH CALLS OUT SHAYNA BASZLER…RHEA RIPLEY ANSWERS

NXT

It didn’t take long for someone to take up Triple H on his open-door policy. Becky Lynch made her return to Full Sail focusing on the NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler, hoping the champion would face her in the ring without a sneak attack. To the delight of fans everywhere, Rhea Ripley came to the ring challenging “The Man” to prove she had the balls.

It was a finely wrestled match, but the biggest takeaway is how Ripley looked every bit Lynch’s equal. Sadly we would not get a fitting conclusion as Baszler, Jessamyn Duke, and Marina Shafir stormed the ring. The Four Horsewomen had the early advantage, but it wouldn’t be long until Lynch and Ripley cleared them out of the ring.

The Raw Women’s Champion held her title high as fans cheered to close the segment.

MATT RIDDLE FACES OFF WITH…RICOCHET AND CHAOS ERUPTS

Matt Riddle was scheduled to face Kona Reeves, that changed when Ricochet attacked Reeves. The chemistry between these men is uncanny, trading strikes and reversals effortlessly just having an incredible match. That was until Smackdown’s Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura made their presence felt.

Though they didn’t draw a disqualification like the last match, it did provide enough of a distraction for RIddle to hook a crucifix for the win. Ricochet took out Cesaro with a dive past the barricade, and Nakamura gained the edge on Riddle. Surprisingly Roderick Strong made his way to ring taking out his opponent for Sunday.

Riddle thanked him with a headkick to the dome, and was swiftly attacked by War Games opponent Finn Balor. Balor gained the early advantage, but Riddle fought off the former Prince Devitt outside the ring where he swiftly retreated.

THE UNDISPUTED ERA AND THE REVIVAL GO TO WAR AND DO NOT DISAPPOINT

NXT

The Revival made their long-awaited return to Full Sail University, against dream opponents in Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish. Incredible display by the highly regarded NXT Tag Team Champions and their underrated main roster opponents. Fish and O’Reilly largely dominated with Dash Wilder playing the face in peril.

The later stages of this match was when these teams hit their stride. The Revival countering “The High-Low” into a “Shatter Machine”, only to be broken up by O’Reilly. The Undisputed Era picked up the win after finally hitting their finisher, and what appeared to be some interference from underneath the ring.

KAY LEE RAY MAKES IN RING DEBUT AND MASSIVE BRAWL ERUPTS

NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray looked to ride the momentum she built with her debut last week to a win opposite Dakota Kai. Ray was dominant throughout using her trash talk and size advantage to gain an edge. Kai exploded into the match late with a valiant striking display, but it was not enough as Ray hit the Gory Bomb for the win.

Ray had no time to celebrate as the Smackdown women’s roster invaded assaulting the two NXT standouts. This brought out both War games teams to combat the blue brand, and the RAW women as well. Pandemonium ensued until Nikki Cross made her way out of the back laying waste to all with what looked like a massive trash can lid. Cross stood tall in the ring possibly foreshadowing what will happen this Sunday.

ADAM COLE CONTINUES IMPRESSIVE STREAK AND BRAND TENSIONS EXPLODE

NXT

Adam Cole and Dominik Dijakovic went to battle for the edge in their War Games match. While not as brutal as the Shirai vs Yim (and for good reason), each man did get to spotlight why they are two of NXT’s premier superstars. Adam Cole was cerebral attacking the surgically repaired knee of Dijakovic. Dominik was a controlled wrecking ball wiping out Cole with various power moves, including a brutal chokeslam into a ladder.

Dijakovic peeled Cole off the ladder to nail him with “Feast Your Eyes”, only to further injure his knee. This proved to be the difference-maker as it hindered his movement, allowing Cole to recover and knock down the behemoth to grab the briefcase.

The Undisputed Era made their way to the ramp to celebrate with their leader, only to be cut off by a Smackdown Superstars Cesaro, Nakamura, Dawson, and Wilder. Retreating was not an option as Raw’s Street Profits, Viking Raiders, and Zack Ryder blocked their exit. Yet another brawl broke out as the main roster dismantled The Undisputed Era.

After dispatching the dominant stable, the opposing brands brawled with each other as more NXT roster members made their way to take part in the brawl. In the ring Drew McIntyre wiped out Dijakovic, only to be powerbombed into oblivion by Keith Lee. Lee had a brief staredown with Ivar. After a sign of mutual respect, the big men wiped out everyone with a dive over the top rope.

Cole went to celebrate as the last man standing, but was assaulted by Seth Rollins. Rollins nailed him with the Curb Stomp seemingly begging for someone else to come out to the ring. This was answered by Tommaso Ciampa, making his way to a thunderous reception. Ciampa just started to brawl with Rollins as the show abruptly went off the air.
