Jim Cornette Resigns From NWA

Legendary wrestling Jim Cornette has always been a polarizing figure in the history of professional wrestling, often criticizing modern wrestling while championing the days of old. The fiery personality of Cornette has always been a love/hate relationship with the wrestling community – people either love him or hate him. But following some questionable comments on Tuesday’s broadcast of NWA Powerrr, Cornette has found himself in a whirlwind of bad PR. During a match involving former WWE Superstar Trevor Murdoch, Cornette quipped “he’s the only guy I know that can strap a bucket of fried chicken to his back and ride a motorcycle through Ethiopia.”

In response to the overwhelming backlash to Cornette’s comments (and why NWA didn’t edit the comments out, considering it was a pre-taped episode), the National Wrestling Alliance issued a statement on Wednesday that Cornette has resigned from his position as color commentary for NWA.

Effective immediately: Jim Cornette has resigned from the National Wrestling Alliance. As an announcer on the November 19th edition of NWA Power, Jim made remarks during a singles match between Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch that were both offensive and do not meet the high standards of decency and good faith of the National Wrestling Alliance.

To ensure that such an error can never happen again, we’ve established new procedures of review for all NWA programming going forward.

We sincerely regret our failure in this regard.

Due to the social media uproar, NWA briefly removed the most recent episode of Powerrr, although it has since reappeared with the comments edited out. It’s been a tough week for Cornette, as a recorded conversation surfaced of Cornette discussing a story where he frequently used the N-word.

This comes after the NWA already had to issue a statement over the conduct of Jim Cornette over comments that he made which their statement described as “…that have been taken as making light on the subject of suicide”.

So far Jim Cornette has not issued a statement, but he did retweet the NWA’s announcement of his resignation. This can only be seen as a failure from both partys as the comment never should have passed the editing process of the NWA but is also a comment that Jim Cornette should be smart enough to know would land him in hot water.
