#AndNEW: Slamforce Africa Crowns Inaugural Champions

On Saturday night in Pretoria, South Africa, a new wrestling promotion, Slamforce Africa, held it’s debut show, crowning its inaugural champions in the process. Former WWE Superstar Celeste Bonin (aka Kaitlyn) became the first SFA Women’s Champion, while Ring of Honor‘s PJ Black (aka former WWE Superstar Justin Gabriel) become the first SFA World Champion.

While the show featured former WWE Superstars like Bonin, Black, and Rob Van Dam, the majority of the roster are local African indie wrestlers such as Makita, Black Widow, Killamanjaro, and Kyle Ripley. Recent IMPACT signee Katie Forbes was also on the first card.

South Africa has the hottest scene in African indie wrestling, housing all of the continent’s indie promotions, such as South African Pro Wrestling (SAPW), African Punishment Wrestling Association (APWA), World Wrestling Professionals (WWP, where PJ Black started out) and Durban Pro Wrestling (DPW), new promotions like Honour Wrestling Association (HWA) and SFA, and Africa Wrestling Alliance (AWA), the oldest South African still running (founded in 1995, and where Adam Rose got his start).
