AEW on TNT: Who Should Be The Inaugural AEW Tag Team Champions?

AEW Tag Team Champions

All Elite Wrestling has their biggest night to date as the debut on TNT is here. With it being here, that means that the AEW Tag Team Championship Tournament will officially be underway. Which raises the question: Who will be the inaugural AEW Tag Team Champions? That will be answered in the coming weeks. But with the quite possibly the best tag team division in all of pro wrestling, the real question may be: Who should be the inaugural AEW Tag Team Champions? Let’s take a look.

AEW Tag Team Championship Bracket

The official bracket to become the first-ever AEW Tag Team Champions has officially been released and AEW quite possibly has the most talented tag team division in wrestling which leaves certain teams sitting on the sidelines for this one. The first-round matchups include The Young Bucks taking on Private Party. This was the matchup first announced as it will take place in Boston, MA on October 9th. The winners of this bout will take on the winners of a first round match consisting of the Lucha Bros and the Jurassic Express. On the other side of the bracket is the Dark Order, who won a bye at All Out, waiting to take on the winner of Best Friends vs SCU. A winner will be determined on AEW Dynamite on October 30th live on TNT.

Competitive Edge: Who has the advantage heading in?

Seven of some of the best teams in all of professional wrestling with two teams like Jack Evans and Angelico, as well as Proud N’ Powerful who many know better as Santana and Ortiz of LAX. With teams like these on the outside, this tournament is surely a prominent one. With that being said, here is a look at each team and what they have done so far along with what their chances are of winning the whole thing.

The Young Bucks

Fans, for the most part, will be viewing The Young Bucks as the forgone favorite to win this tournament. And who can blame them? For years now, it has felt like the brother’s have been the best tag team in the world while building their resume year after year. Matt and Nick Jackson will go far in this tournament. That feels like a guarantee. It’s just a matter if they get to the finals or not is the question. In their AEW bouts, they are a combined 3-1, 2-1 in direct tag team action, with wins over the Lucha Bros and The Brotherhood, Cody and Dustin Rhodes. They have yet to be pinned despite having a loss as they lost the titles in a ladder match. The Young Bucks are probably the favorites going in, as they take on Private Party, a team that the Bucks took on in their final indie appearance possibly ever at House of Glory in August. Will it be a Superkick Party at the end of this tournament?

Private Party

A relatively new team to the scene, Private Party has wowed so far in their time with AEW. Despite losing in the Triple Threat tag match at Fyter Fest, that was just a glimpse in how good both Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy can be together. It was just a few weeks later at All Out that they truly put themselves on the map. Private Party faced Jack Evans and Angelico in one of the better matches of that show overall, let alone The Buy In. The crowd was on their feet as all four of them put on a show and ultimately had Private Party come out victorious. Now they are set up for a meeting with The Young Bucks in Boston on Oct. 9th. Can Private Party pull out the upset of all upsets?

Lucha Bros

Cero Miedo. Having no fear goes a long way into having long-term success, especially in professional wrestling. The Lucha Bros started off slow when they joined AEW, going 0-2 out of the gates by never getting the better of The Young Bucks. It only takes one win, however, to turn everything around. At Fight for the Fallen, the Lucha Bros went to war with SCU’s Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian which led to their first victory in AEW. It was following the match that they’d challenge The Young Bucks to an Escalera De La Muerte match, in which they would win. Now sitting at 2-2 with two straight wins, Pentagon and Fenix carry plenty of momentum that could bring them to the AEW World Tag Team Championships.

Jurassic Express

With All Elite Wrestling came a new platform for wrestlers to go to which would help them get recognized. Fans would be made of the wrestlers and people could pick and choose their new favorites. Well, with the new platform, Jurassic Express has become far and away the new favorites of the fans around wrestling. Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy have captured the hearts of fans and have been the biggest benefactors from AEW. Now as they begin on TNT, Jurassic Express’ popularity will only grow bigger. Out of all the teams in this tournament, “A Boy and His Dinosaur” clearly sit with plenty of disadvantages and the underdog of the entire tournament. They have yet to pick up a win so far, whether it was teaming with Marko Stunt or simply together, as well as being the team with by far the least time together as one. If they hope to make history, beating the Lucha Bros in the first round could be the upset of the tournament.

Best Friends

AEW Tag Team Champions

Trent and Chuck Taylor have had plenty of success early on with AEW but came up short in their hopes of grabbing the first round-bye with their lone loss coming at the hands of The Dark Order at All Out. It was there however that Orange Cassidy seemingly joined the Best Friends to give them some backup in the future. As they prepare for their first-round matchup with SCU, it will be a tough time for them to get back on the wagon after being so close to jumping forward to the semi-finals. Trent and Chuckie T have had success together for a number of years now which gives them a great opportunity to accomplish success in this tournament.

SCU

They will tell you it is the worst town they have ever been to. But they will also do anything it takes to win and have been for years. It seems as though SCU has been overlooked when it comes to teams in this bracket, despite the years of success in every company they have been, especially Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian together. They head into the bracket and whether it is the Addiction going into it or Scorpio Sky and one of them, it will certainly be difficult to knock them out of it. Best Friends vs SCU in the first round. A match of veteran teams putting it all on the line to call themselves the first-ever AEW Tag Team Champions. Should result in excellence for the viewer.

The Dark Order

Photo: AEW

The Dark Order has essentially ruled over AEW since showing up at Double or Nothing. Evil Uno and Stu Grayson remain the only team undefeated in the tournament, sitting at 2-0 and the coveted first round bye which brings them right to the semi-finals. Whether fans are getting behind this team or not, The Dark Order is going to be a force as they approach winning the AEW Tag Team Championships by getting to the finals. They will be awaiting the winners of Best Friends vs SCU.

Underdogs Tell The Best Story: Jurassic Express over The Dark Order

Truth be told, The Young Bucks would make all the sense when it comes to winning this whole thing. It is unlikely that The Young Bucks will become the first champions of AEW despite being in many people’s eyes the absolute best team in the world. But what All Elite Wrestling has going for them is organic fandom. In no way does anyone need to be driven down the throats of their fans when they are essentially the company for the fans. Which is what leads to bringing the tail of two sides when it comes to this bracket. Of course, teams like the Bucks and the Lucha Bros will someday be AEW Tag Team Champions, but they do not need to be the first. Who does is the organic favorites of Jurassic Express.

“The Underdog Story” is one that has been told for years and year in professional wrestling but is the perfect story right out of the gates on TNT. “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry is going to have one of the brightest futures in this company and for years to come. A future world champion even. His partner, Luchasaurus, is on the fast track to being a huge star as well, but together they have a goal which is to win the tag team titles. Many fans are thinking that The Dark Order is on there way to becoming champions themselves since their first night with the company when they made the impact. Putting the non-organically pushed team of The Dark Order vs The Jurassic Express who has found something special together is the perfect final matchup. And what would top it all off?

The underdog defeating the undefeated force to become the first ever AEW Tag Team Champions, Jurassic Express. There’s a reason they’re in it. Because of the fans. It’d be the perfect culmination to the entire tourney.
