Tony Schiavone To Join The AEW Broadcast Team

It was rumored for a while that former WCW announcer and current Major League Wrestling (MLW) announcer Tony Schiavone was signing with All Elite Wrestling, and on Monday’s episode of Being The Elite, Schiavone himself appeared on the episode to confirm the rumors – he was now All Elite.

While it was unsure in the initial rumors and reports what Tony Schiavone would be doing with All Elite Wrestling, he had previously appeared in an AEW segment on Road to All Out in the AEW Control Room. But this sparked some controversy after MLW’s Court Bauer said he was unaware of the Schiavone working with AEW as well as MLW. But it appears now details have been worked out on both sides and Schiavone is now free to work for both promotions. But in Monday’s press release from AEW, it finally reveals that Schiavone will indeed be heading to a position he’s well suited for, joining Jim Ross and Excalibur at the broadcast table. The multi-year deal will also see Tony Schiavone act as a Senior Producer with the company.

With Schiavone joining JR and Excalibur at the desk, it will be interesting to see where Alex Marvez, who previously worked the booth as the third man, gets moved to.

Tony Schiavone began in the pro wrestling world broadcasting for Jim Crockett PromotionsMid Atlantic Championship Wrestling of the NWA in 1983, before moving briefly to the WWF from 1989 to 1990. In 1990, he returned to WCW, where he remained the lead announcer for the promotion until its closure in 2001. He returned to the pro wrestling world in 2017 after 16 years away from the business, to take on the lead announcer duties with MLW.
