NXT RECAP (8/7/19)

NXT Recap

Only two matches scheduled for this weeks card with Matt Riddle looking to gain revenge on Killian Dain and the return of Shane Thorne. Let’s go ahead and dive into the go-home episode before NXT Takeover Toronto.

STREET PROFITS VS UNDISPUTED ERA CONTRACT SIGNING

NXT Recap

This is exactly what this match needed to add some heat to their match this Saturday. The Street Profits were allowed to show off some of their comedy chops, even paying tribute to the New Age Outlaws and calling the challengers various names.

The Undisputed Era followed with Bobby Fish doing some decent heelwork on the mic, but it was when Montez Ford got serious and took control of the mic.

He praised the challengers listing off the various tag teams they have overcome, and stating they may very well be the best tag team in NXT history. He followed it up by asking Fish and O’Reilly what makes them think losing is an option for The Street Profits.

Dawkins concluded by saying they would “beat that ass”, and that is undisputed, before signing the contracts.

SHANE THORNE CONTINUES MARCH AGAINST BREAKOUT TOURNAMENT PARTICIPANTS WITH WIN OVER JOAQUIN WILDE

Shane Thorne made his return to NXT in-ring competition this week against a standout of the NXT Breakout Tournament Joaquin Wilde.

Wilde was able to showcase is high flying style, controlling a large portion of the match with it. However, it was ultimately the bigger Thorne who was able to use his strength advantage to pick up the win.

Thorne yanked Wilde out of the ring, tossing him around like a rag doll. He followed this up with a running knee to Wilde for the three count.

KILLIAN DAIN VS MATT RIDDLE…OR DAIN ASSAULTS RIDDLE

Matt Riddle was looking to gain retribution against the man who assaulted him just a few weeks ago. Unfortunately for the Original Bro that did not happen.

Killian Dain assaulted him from out of nowhere with a running crossbody. Riddle tried to fight back, but it was futile as Dain overpowered him landing a running cannonball, simultaneously ramming Riddle into the steel steps.

I just have to take a second to say between the amazing vignettes and these assaults on Riddle, Killian Dain looks every bit the monster he should’ve been on the main roster.

BREEZANGO RE-IMAGINED

While a very short segment, this was quite entertaining. This made me miss the Fashion Files, as Fandango, in particular, was excellent with his deadpan delivery.

From Fandango shushing Cathy Kelley long after she had stopped talking, Breeze’s surprise reaction to wack meaning bad, and finally Fandango taking the mic from Kelley as if he was about to say something, only to pull Breeze off-screen.

While it was very much the typical comedy both are known for, it has not only added excitement to their match with the Forgotten Sons next week but has brought intrigue to this “re-imagining” Fandango spoke of.

SETH ROLLINS, FINN BALOR, AND MORE TALK COLE VS GARGANO III

As always WWE put together a spectacular video package promoting the final chapter in the Adam Cole vs Johnny Gargano rivalry.

This really did a tremendous job in establishing that Gargano basically bleeds yellow and black, as he wants his name synonymous with NXT.

This was further showcased when they showed how big of a part he plays in helping out with his fellow superstars at the performance center.

Cole was shown as the cocky arrogant champion, downplaying the threat that Gargano is, being more concerned with his “tour” than anything else.
