Preview: PROGRESS Toronto (8/8/19)

PROGRESS Wrestling comes to Toronto with a show worthy of Chapter status.  PROGRESS Toronto features all the stars of PROGRESS like Chris Brookes, Aussie Open, Travis Banks, Jordan Devlin, and others as they bring some British strong style to Canada. There are still some tickets available.

Trent Seven vs Eddie Kingston

There are few wrestlers more perfect for each other than Eddie Kingston and Trent Seven.  Former Atlas champion Trent Seven was one of the first men in British Wrestling to incorporate Strong Style into his arsenal and now possesses some of the best chops in the business.  However hard Seven hits Kingston you can be sure Kingston will hit back just as hard as.  Kingston is at home in a fight and that’s exactly what this one will be.

David Starr & Jody Threat vs Jordynne Grace & Chris Brookes

Some mixed tag team action as two PROGRESS stalwarts team with some of North America’s best women.  SSS16 winner David Starr is looking to build up a head of steam ahead of his showdown with WALTER at Ally Pally.  His partner Jody Threat is just finishing up a tour of the UK where she made her PROGRESS debut at Chapter 93.  Their opponents are a tough team of PROGRESS women’s champion Jordynne Grace and Chris Brookes.  IMPACT Wrestling star Grace has long been one of the best women in the NA scene but by capturing the PROGRESS Women’s title she also put herself on top of the pile in the UK.  She teams with one of the UK’s top stars Schadenfreude and CCK member Chris Brookes who is a highly decorated tag team wrestler that has seen his popularity skyrocket after a recent tour of Dramatic Dream Team (DDT Pro).

Dark Order (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson) vs Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis) vs The Butcher & The Blade

The Dark Order was once one of the top tag teams in North America as Super Smash Bros.  Now signed to AEW, they represent their former stomping grounds SMASH Wrestling here against one of the top tag team’s in PROGRESS history.  Aussie Open have won tag teams titles all over Europe since making their way over from Australia in 2017 and with rumors flying that they may soon join NJPW this could be the last time we see them share a ring with Dark Order. Butcher & The Blade have really gained momentum the past year when Pepper Parks (formerly Braxton Sutter in IMPACT) and Andy Williams finally committed to being a proper tag team. Aside from Smash Wrestling, they’re also regularly working for the likes of Beyond Wrestling, Bar Wrestling, Black Label Pro and more.

Toni Storm vs Holidead

Once the most dominant force in the PROGRESS women’s division Toni Storm is now the NXT UK women’s champion but her time as PROGRESS Women’s champion is fondly remembered by fans of the promotion as she took on all comers for close to a year to help establish the young division.  Holidead made her mark in PROGRESS recently when she debuted attacking Candyfloss and Lana Austin then defeating both at subsequent chapters.  Now Holidead has the chance to beat one of the biggest women in PROGRESS history

Jordan Devlin vs Travis Banks

A rivalry that we saw tear up NXT UK this year comes to Canada as Ireland’s Ace Jordan Devlin takes on The Kiwi Buzzsaw Travis Banks.  Both have gained reputations as some of the best wrestlers in PROGRESS and the UK scene in general.  These two will renew their rivalry without the in-ring restrictions of NXT UK and are sure to steal the show at PROGRESS Toronto.

Paul Robinson has been with PROGRESS since the early days and has been a part of some of the company’s biggest moments and storylines.  Now after years of grinding and fighting, he is getting an opportunity to become the PROGRESS World champion.  He will have to defeat the most dominant man in PROGRESS WALTER if he wants to achieve that though.  Ever since winning the title WALTER has turned away all challengers from some of the best in the world and he currently looks unstoppable.  Can Robbo use his experience and grime to grind out a win or will he become another notch in WALTER’s belt?
