Amazing Red To Have Last Match Versus Will Ospreay

Amazing Red

A pioneer of the US indie scene from the early 2000s until his recent retirement announcement this past April, former multi-time IMPACT X-Division Champion Amazing Red has seemingly picked his opponent for his final match before his retirement becomes official. It all started during the finals of this year’s NJPW Best of the Super Juniors 26 when Amazing Red tweeted his reaction to the final match between Will Ospreay and Shingo Takagi.

Following the match, Ospreay noticed Amazing Red’s comments and responded with a comment of his own. Or rather, a challenge based on Red’s last sentence about still not having his “last match”.

Amazing Red was quick to respond.

On Friday afternoon, Amazing Red posted a video showing him heading to the ring to begin working out in preparation for his final match against Will Ospreay.

With the match seemingly a go, and both combatants up for the final match of Amazing Red’s career, the big question will now be where and when it will take place. Will Ospreay is locked up with New Japan Pro Wrestling, so that will limit many of the possible outlets for Ospreay to compete in. New Japan stars have been able to work some smaller indies, like Game Changer Wrestling (Minoru Suzuki has competed in several GCW Bloodsports), but another option is Amazing Red’s own promotion, New York City’s House of Glory (HOG). There’s also a chance that NJPW’s US-affiliate Ring of Honor could land the marquee match for one of their pay-per-views. Regardless where this match ends up, it could be a generational dream match, or as Red said himself on one of his tweets, an “instant classic.”
