Preview: WAW – Fightmare 2019 (6/2/19)

Fightmare

Norwich based promotion World Association Of Wrestling are running one of the most ambitious shows in recent British wrestling history.  They are running a show in Carrow Road, the stadium for the local Premier League team, the venue can hold just over twenty-seven thousand people for a match.  WAW has brought in the big guns for the show including WWE Hall Of Famer’s Mick Foley and Billy Gunn as well as local club legend Grant Holt who has become a wrestler ever since retiring from football.  WAW has the benefit of being run by the famous Knight Family who have become mainstream figures since the release of Fighting With My Family a movie about the WWE career of their daughter Paige.  With all that behind them, WAW has managed to sell over four thousand tickets to Fightmare 2019.

Jody Fleisch vs Dean Allmark

Two of the veterans of the UK wrestling scene collide in this one. Between them there is over forty years of wrestling experience.  This is a true styles clash as Fleisch is a high flyer that is still performing insanely agile moves for a man pushing forty years old, while Allmark has more of a classic style with a lot of technical wrestling involved.  Of course with the experience these two have they’ve learned to work outside their comfort zone and should be able to make the most of any advantage they have

WAW International Championship: Brody Steele (c) vs Sinn Bodhi

Another match featuring two veterans, this time we have two Canadians going head to head. Bodhi is an ominous figure who draws from his real-life background in the Carnival world to get inside his opponent’s heads and uses every bit of his 6ft 2 233 pounds to back that up physically.  Steele is an opponent that will be able to stand toe to toe with Bodhi though.  Steele is a mountain of a man standing at 6ft 6 and weighing almost three hundred pounds.  At Fightmare these two forces collide.

Zak Knight vs Tony Knight

Tony turned his back on Zak, yes Zak Zodiac from the movie, and Zak is out to prove that he’s a better wrestler than Tony.  This will be three eight-minute rounds of wrestling in which two veterans collide in a bitter war.

WAW World Tag Team Championships: Senior Citizens (c) vs The Foji vs QWO vs UK Pitbulls

A gimmick heavy match to say the least from the tag division.  The current tag team champions the Senior Citizens are, well, old people but are also the only people in this match that have won the WAW tag team championships in recent history.  The UK Pitbulls are three-time tag team champions but their last reign came in 2005.  They stopped wrestling in 2008 and have made sporadic comebacks over the last two years.  The monstrous figures are always intimidating and always a threat.  The FOJI are a younger act that has teamed together for two years now and achieved success capturing the WAW Academy tag titles twice.  The QWO or Queen’s World Order is a drag tag team featuring the Queen Of The Ring Priscilla and Mitchell Starr.  Priscilla has been in the game a long time with her most notable run coming in the mid ’00s for companies like International Pro Wrestling: UK and FWA Academy.

WAW World Light Heavyweight Champion: PJ Knight vs Peter Nixon vs Brad O’Brien vs Villman vs Jaiden Dowcra vs Alex Young

A collection of high flying wrestlers go head to head to become the first ever WAW World Light Heavyweight Champion.  All of them have years of experience wrestling in WAW but represent the new generation of British Wrestling talents that work an action-packed and exciting in-ring style.  At Fightmare one of them etches their name in history as the first ever Light Heavyweight champion in WAW history.

Shoot Fight: Ricky Knight vs Dale Broughton

This match features two men that have been in this business for a long time.  Both come from a time when wrestlers had to be legitimately tough and survived the dark days of British Wrestling to still be involved in the scene now.  These two will leave it all in the ring as one man will walk out and the other will be carried out, who better to oversee the mayhem than Hardcore Icon Mick Foley

Bellatrix World Championship: Sweet Saraya Knight (c) vs Mercedes Martinez

Two of the best female wrestlers in the world collide here.  The world traveled Martinez has been a dominant force on the US women’s independent wrestling scene for almost two decades.  In that time she has captured every major women’s championship there is.  She is a two-time SHIMMER champion, three-time WSU World champion, Phoenix of RISE champion and has also captured multiple tag titles in places like SHIMMER and Shine.  In 2017 Martinez made her way to the WWE where she competed in the Mae Young Classic where she made it to the semifinals before losing to current NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler.  There aren’t many women out there with a resume to match Martinez but Saraya Knight is no ordinary woman.  With almost two decades in wrestling under her belt she has won titles all over the UK indie scene and has captured many more around the world.  She too is a former SHIMMER champion, a former Indygurlz Australia champion, the current Blackcraft women’s champion, current Bellatrix World champion and former Queen Of Southside champion among many others.  Two highly decorated legends of the women’s independent scene will collide at Fightmare.

NWA Championship: Nick Aldis (c) vs Brad Slayer

Brad Slayer challenges for the famous Ten Pounds Of Gold.  Aldis has had a renewed purpose under the revitalized NWA as their champion and has traveled all over the world defending the prestigious title.  Slayer has been a successful competitor in WAW for some time but this presents the biggest opportunity of his career.  The three-time WAW Tag Team Champion, two-time WAW British Heavyweight Champion, and two-time WAW Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion will be eager to get his hands on one of the most recognizable titles in wrestling today and he has the pedigree to make it happen at Fightmare.

WAW Undisputed World Heavyweight Championship: Roy Knight (c) vs Ricky Knight Jr.

Father vs Son in what is sure to be a passing of the guard.  Ricky Knight Jr his the next prodigy of the Knight family and has already begun to make a name for himself in the UK scene.  To defeat his father and mentor for the top prize in WAW would establish him as the future of the company and its next big star.  Roy isn’t going to make it easy for Ricky in any way and is setting out to prove he deserves to stay on top.  At Fightmare we may see the next big star of the Knight family take his spot at the top of the company with much more to come.

KOSS Industries (Kosta K & Prince Malik) vs Grant Holt, Billy Gunn & Rene Dupree

Koss Industries have had issues with Grant Holt ever since his debut.  Holt is a legend in Norwich having played for the local club for four years winning back to back player of the year awards three times in a row, helping the team to back to back promotions and becoming he sixth highest scorer in the club’s history.  All of Norwich will side with Holt as will his tag partners former WWE superstar Rene Dupree and WWE Hall Of Famer Billy Gunn.  KOSS industries may have bitten off more than they can chew by targeting Holt as he has former WWE champions and all of Norwich on his side at Fightmare
