The reign of Orange Cassidy as the Independent Wrestling Champion is over. At IndependentWrestling.tv‘s Midwest Mixtape on Sunday afternoon, the 147-day run as champion came to an end, as Cassidy was beaten by rising indie superstar Kris Statlander.

Kris Statlander Wins Independent Wrestling Championship

It marks another great milestone for the rising star, who only debuted in 2017, a student of Pat Buck and Curt Hawkin‘s Create-A-Pro Wrestling School. Earlier this year she defeated Jordynne Grace for the Women Superstars Uncensored (WSU) Spirit Championship and scored big wins over the likes of Kimber Lee, AR Fox, David Starr, and Chris Dickinson. She’s become a regular with Beyond Wrestling on their new show, Uncharted Territoryand even appeared on an episode of SmackDown Live right after WrestleMania 35, in a tag match against The IIconics alongside Karissa Rivera.

The Independent Wrestling Championship is the official title of the IndependentWrestling.tv network and is defended on all affiliated indie promotions appearing on the network, including Beyond Wrestling, Freelance Wrestling, ACTION Wrestling, Women’s Wrestling Revolution (WWR), St. Louis Anarchy, Black Label Pro, Impact Championship Wrestling (ICW New York), New York Wrestling Connection (NYWC) and F1RST Wrestling, to name a few. Statlander is just the fourth champion since the belt was created in 2017 and the first woman to hold it, following reigns by Cassidy, “Hot Sauce” Tracy Williams and Jonathan Gresham.
