NJPW Announces A Return To Australia

New Japan Pro Wrestling has today announced a return to Australia. The tour which will be dubbed NJPW Southern Showdown is set to take place in Melbourne at Festival Hall on June 29. The company has also said there will be a further announcement later of a date and location for a show in Sydney as part of the same tour.

NJPW Southern Showdown is the follow up to the Fallout Down Under tour which took place in February 2018. The newly announced tour appears to be a slightly condensed version though, as the previous tour featured stops in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.

As stated in the press release, “Australian wrestling fans are among the most passionate in the world. Their vocal support during last year’s Fallout Down Under tour did not go unnoticed, and everyone at NJPW is thrilled to meet immense fan demand to see the world’s best pro wrestling in the country once more.”

The Australian presence within NJPW has continued to grow over the last two years with the additions of Robbie Eagles, Mikey Nicholls and Gino Gambino to their roster. In a separate but related announcement, Gambino is set to join the English commentary team for the upcoming Road To Dontaku events.

The NJPW Southern Showdown tour continues NJPW’s global expansion, which has also seen them venture to the United States and England.
