Jim Cornette Joins MLW Announce Team

At tonight’s tapings for Major League Wrestling (MLW) Fusion prior to the live event MLW Intimidation Games, long-time wrestling personality Jim Cornette debuted with the company joining their broadcast team.

Jim Cornette Joins MLW Announce Team

Jim Cornette made his debut in pro wrestling as a manager with Jerry Jarrett and Jerry Lawler‘s Continental Wrestling Association (CWA) in 1982, but it was a talent trade in 1983 that saw Mid South take CWA’s underutilized Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton – creating the Midnight Express – and adding Cornette as their manager than Cornette’s career exploded. In 1991, he started Smokey Mountain Wrestling (SMW) and in 1993, joined the WWE, with SMW acting as a developmental for the company. Cornette assumed many roles backstage, working with the WWE until 2005. From 2006 through 2009, he worked for TNA/IMPACT Wrestling, and upon his departure in 2009, he headed to Ring of Honor, where he worked until 2012. He’s since become one of the most popular (and reviled) podcast hosts in the game and in 2017, returned to the WWE for one night to induct the Rock N’ Roll Express into the WWE Hall of Fame. His last major work onscreen was a brief return to IMPACT Wrestling in 2017 for one set of tapings, where he acted as a brief network liaison.

No word as of yet if Cornette’s role expands beyond broadcasting, as he joins another former WWE talent, Rich Bocchini (aka Rich Brennan), and former WCW lead announcer Tony Schiavone behind the mic.
