Preview: Freelance vs GCW (1/11/19)

Freelance

Chicago’s Freelance Wrestling has been bringing the American hardcore and hard-hitting action to the area since 2014 and this Friday they return in a battle for supremacy against New Jersey’s Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), one of the fastest rising US indies of 2018, with Freelance vs. GCW in Summit, Illinois.

6-Man Scramble Match: Chris Castro vs. Elliott Paul vs. Danger Mask vs. G-Raver vs. Orin Veidt vs. Alex Colon

A wild six-man scramble will go down on Friday night, featuring six men capable of doing some crazy feats. Chris Castro is a Freelance regular who made his EVOLVE debut this year, while Eliott Paul is an emerging Midwest star rising through the ranks of Freelance and IWA Mid South. Danger Mask is new to the scene and looking to explode, while G-Raver is an 11-year veteran of GCW, H20, Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) and more. Orin Veidt has been making a name for himself in IWA Mid South, H20 and others of late, while Alex Colon is a 2x H20 Champion who has fought for Rockstar Pro, GCW and CZW for over a decade.

Matt Knicks & Alex Ohlson vs. Tony Deppen & Jimmy Lloyd

Matt Knicks has been a Freelance regular since the promotion started in 2014, where he’s a former Freelance tag team champion with Chris Castro. He’s also worked for EVOLVE, Black Label Pro, Warrior Wrestling and many others, and on Friday he teams up with another Freelance original in Alex Ohlson. The two Freelance stars will be facing off against two of GCW’s emerging stars, as Tony Deppen (also a regular with CHIKARA) and the new Prince of American Hardcore Jimmy Lloyd team up for Team GCW.

Acid Jaz, Marshe Rockett & GPA vs. Reed Bentley, KTB & John Wayne Murdoch

A trios match on the GCW vs Freelance battlefield, as Freelance sends a team lead by Freelance’s most hated men, GPA. GPA brings in Midwest indie veteran (and former IMPACT star) Marshe Rockett, a long time veteran of the Chicago indies like Chicago Style Wrestling (CSW), GALLI Lucha Libre and Freelance, alongside another Chicago vet in Acid Jaz of CSW, GALLI and Freelance. KTB (aka Kyle The Beast) is a former GCW Heavyweight Champion and a fearsome combatant from GCW, Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW), CZW and IWA Mid South, and he’s bringing some heavy artillery as back up. Reed Bentley is a former 3x IWA Mid South Heavyweight Champion and alongside their third member, John Wayne Murdoch (5x IWA Mid South Heavyweight Champion), they’re former GCW and IWA Mid South Tag Team Champions as The Rejects (they still reign as champions with Indiana’s Paradigm Pro Wrestling).

The Work Horsemen (Anthony Henry & JT Drake) vs. Markus Crane & SHLAK

The Work Horsemen (Anthony Henry and James “JT” Drake) are the reigning Freelance Tag Team Champions, but they two have become stand out singles stars as well – Drake is the reigning WWN Champion and Henry is the Full Impact Pro World Champion. But GCW is hoping to derail the Horsemen’s momentum by sending in one of the baddest and meanest tag teams in GCW history (which is saying a lot) in the form of Markus Crane and the monster SHLAK.

Pat Monix vs. Isaias Velazquez vs. Eric Ryan

An exciting triple threat match sees one of the Midwest’s top prospects, 3-year pro Pat Monix (who exploded this year in IWA Mid South, Black Label Pro and Freelance) take on two veterans in reigning 2x Freelance Champion Isaias Velazquez and former 2x AIW Absolute Champion Eric Ryan, who has become a regular soldier in GCW the past two years. Monix will have to hope youth can overcome experience in this one, but it should still end up being one helluva fight.

Gringo Loco vs. “Spyder” Nate Webb

Chicago’s Gringo Loco, a long time veteran of All American Wrestling (AAW) and GALLI, has exploded onto the national scene of late with Major League Wrestling (MLW) in the past year, as well as working for both Freelance and GCW. He’s taking on an IWA Mid South legend (and 2x IWA Mid South Junior Heavyweight Champion) in “Spyder” Nate Webb who has made his GCW his new home in 2018.

Ruff Crossing vs. Matt Tremont

Another veteran of the Chicago indie scene, such as DREAMWAVE, Southland Championship Wrestling (SCW) and more, Ruff Crossing has become a part of Freelance Underground, Freelance’s “dark side” promotion. But he may have bitten off more than he can chew when he steps into the ring on Friday against one of the modern day myths and legends of American hardcore in former GCW and CZW Champion Matt Tremont. Tremont doesn’t dance around softly, he hits hard and hits often. There will be blood.

Darin Corbin vs. Nick Gage

Minnesota’s Darin Corbin has been working with Freelance since 2014 and is a former Freelance Champion, whose mouth has gotten him in a lot of trouble in the past. A 14-year veteran of AAW, F1RST Wrestling, West Coast Wrestling Connection (WCWC) and more, Corbin may have talked himself into his own suicide. He steps into the ring against one of the biggest names in American hardcore of the past 20 years and the reigning GCW Heavyweight Champion Nick Gage, who doesn’t put up with small talk or mouthpieces. Hopefully, Corbin has good insurance.
