NXT’s Lio Rush Heading to 205 Live

Last night on 205 Live, a vignette was showed announcing the impending arrival of NXT star Lio Rush to the WWE’s main roster Cruiserweight Division.

The 23-year old high flyer signed with WWE last year after having a breakout year on the indies in 2016. A product of Maryland Champion Wrestling (MCW), he was trained in 2014 alongside NXT Superstar Velveteen Dream (then Patrick Clark). Early in their careers, the two were part of the MCW tag team Sudden Impact, capturing the MCW Tag Team titles. As well as MCW, Lio Rush earned his early stripes as part of Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), where he is also a 2x CZW Wired Champion, as well as one reign as the CZW World Heavyweight Champion.

In 2016, he broke out as a member of Ring of Honor‘s roster, with an explosive aerial attack and personality that made him an indie darling in such promotions as EVOLVE, PWG, Beyond, WrestleCircus, AAW, Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), and DEFY, as well as internationally with Smash Wrestling in Canada, IPW:UK in England, wXw in Germany and The Crash in Mexico. His last indie title was a run as the House of Glory (HOG) Crown Jewel Champion.

He made his NXT TV debut on an October 2017 episode, where he lost to his former tag team partner Velveteen Dream, followed by his next appearance (another loss) against Lars Sullivan this past January. For the most part, Lio Rush has primarily been used on the NXT Live Events circuit, although he won the United Kingdom Championship Tournament over WrestleMania weekend at Axxess, going on to face WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne on the Sunday prior to WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans.

Lio Rush’s call up to the main roster comes just as he’s released his latest music video for the song “Money, Money”, a collaboration single with his longtime friend and rapper DRETT1, under his rap alias of L.I.
