The Brian Pillman Jr. Journey Continues in Ohio

Wrestling progeny are nothing new to the pro wrestling industry. Multi-generation wrestlers and family dynasties are part of the mystique and lore of the sport. But in an age where multi-generation wrestlers are often treated with scorn for their position (Charlotte Flair), the son of the late, great Brian Pillman has shown that there’s still a lot of love for the children of the heroes we grew up loving. Brian Pillman Jr. has become an indie star on the radars of everyone after only one match.

Brian Pillman Jr. began his pro wrestling career late in 2017, but he started with one of the best. His dad’s professional wrestling career began in Calgary, Alberta, Canada as his professional football one was winding down, training with the legendary Hart Family in the late 80s and debuting with Stampede Wrestling. He became an honorary Hart family member, joining the revamped Hart Foundation when he finally joined the WWE in the mid-1990s. It was only fitting that Brian Jr. started off in the same Canadian province and aptly, with a former Hart student in former WWE, WCW and ECW legend Lance Storm. He trained at Storm Wrestling Academy in Calgary from September through December before heading back home to Ohio.

He made his professional wrestling debut last week with Indiana Championship Wrestling and by all accounts impressed in his first outing. Even the veterans took notice.

Yesterday, one of Ohio’s most infamous indie icons and Impact Wrestling/Lucha Underground star Sami Callihan posted a photo from his “Dayton Dungeon” that showed Brian Pillman Jr. with his students from his new school.

Tonight, just before the Impact tapings began, Sami Callihan joined Josh Matthews on an impromptu video chat and confirmed that Pillman was now continuing his training with Callihan and Dave & Jake Crist at the new OI4K Wrestling Academy, which officially opens on March 1, 2018, in Dayton, Ohio. Callihan stated that Pillman was going to be “real good”.

As he continues to work on his schooling in the craft, he’s starting to get some early bookings, including a huge tag team match with Wrestle Club Pro in London, England, where he’ll be teaming with the son of a former Hart Foundation member with his dad, Davey Boy Smith Jr.  He’s also heading to Black Label Pro Wrestling this weekend in Indiana.
