Tre’Davious White Signs Four-Year Extension With Buffalo Bills
The soon-to-be fourth-year pro is coming off a hugely prolific season that saw him make his first Pro Bowl while also earning first-team All-Pro honors. He tallied six interceptions last season which were tied for tops in the league with Anthony Harris of the Minnesota Vikings and former Buffalo Bill Stephon Gilmore, currently of the New England Patriots. He also registered 17 pass breakups, a total bested by only Gilmore, Logan Ryan, and Carlton Davis.
The current COVID-19 pandemic has affected White. The grandfather of his wife with which he has two children succumbed to the disease earlier in the year. That led to the possibility of him opting out of the 2020 season which would’ve made him the third Buffalo player to do so, joining E.J. Gaines and Star Lotulelei. In the end, though, he decided to remain committed to the coming campaign.
White dealt with a bit of a sophomore slump in 2018 after a hugely impressive rookie campaign the year before. After intercepting four passes, breaking up 18 passes, and registering a pick-six as a rookie, he managed just two picks and eight pass breakups the following season. But he recovered in year three of his pro career, emerging as an elite defensive back and thereby earning this extension.
The Bills selected White with the 27th pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. It came after an impressive college career that saw him emerge as the latest high-level pro prospect who cut their teeth in the LSU secondary. Players such as Tyrann Mathieu and Patrick Peterson come to mind. He was a highly rated prospect as a junior but decided to stay for his senior season where he tallied two interceptions and finished second in the SEC with 16 passes defended.
