The Cleveland Browns have agreed to a five-year contract extension with defensive end and former #1 overall pick Myles Garrett. Garrett will now be under contract until the 2026 season. The deal, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, is set at $125 million.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero says the $25 million new money average will surpass Bears defensive captain Khalil Mack‘s $23.5M for the most ever for a defensive player. Garrett currently has 2 years and $19.8M left on his rookie contract.
Garrett’s new deal has $100M in total guarantees and $50M fully guaranteed upon signing his deal.

Myles Garrett Contract Extension
Like fellow defensive lineman Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs, Garrett’s deal comes right before the franchise tag deadline on July 15th.
While at Texas A&M, Garrett established himself as one of the premiere pass rushers in college football. Garrett came to the Aggies as the #2 overall prospect in the nation, and the highest-rated defensive player signed by the school. As a true freshman in 2014, Garrett broke the school’s freshman sack record of 5.5 in just six games. Garrett finished the season with 11.5 sacks.
Over the entirety of his college career, Garrett compiled 141 tackles, 31 sacks, one interception and seven forced fumbles. Garrett forewent his senior year to enter the NFL Draft where he was taken #1 overall by the Cleveland Browns.
Throughout his NFL career, Garrett has earned one Pro Bowl (2018) and compiled 104 tackles and 35 sacks.
This past season during a November 14 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Garrett was involved in a scuffle where he ripped the helmet off of Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph and swung it onto his head. This caused him to be suspended for the remainder of the season (six games) and he was fined $45,623. Garrett’s suspension was the second-longest suspension for on-field misconduct in NFL history, and the longest for a single in-game incident.
The Browns now have their defensive captain tied to their team for the future and Garrett secured himself a deal that his production on the field has warranted.
