Jarran Reed has signed a two-year, $23 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks. The deal carries with it keeps him with the organization through 2021. Reed has been a key piece of the Seahawks defense for the past four years. As an excellent run-stuffer just entering his prime, he will be a valuable asset for many seasons to come.

Jarran Reed Signs New Deal With Seattle Seahawks
Reed played college ball with the Alabama Crimson Tide. In his two years with the team, he put up over 100 tackles and defended seven passes. Listed at 313 pounds he was a mass that plugged up the middle of the field. His one weakness is that he doesn’t generate a ton of pressure on the quarterback. Reed only put up two sacks in college.
Still, the tape he put up as a run stopper was enough the Seahawks to take him in the second round of the 2016 draft. Reed started mostly as a rotational player his rookie season before putting a stronghold on the starting position the last three games of the year. He would never let that job go, starting every game he appeared in for the remainder of his rookie deal.
Reed had a breakout year in 2018, racking up 10.5 sacks, and 50 tackles. He also added 12 tackles for loss and 24 quarterback hits. He was looking to pick up right where he left off, but a suspension put a damper on contract season. After missing the first six games of the year for a personal conduct violation, Reed had a relatively quiet year. He only managed two sacks, eight quarterback hits and 27 tackles.
Still, Reed and his team are confident that he can get back to his 2018 form. Aside from his suspension, he’s been about a reliable as they come, only missing two games before 2019. Reliability is important, and as long as Reed stays out of trouble, he should easily live up to the expectations his contract brings.
