Melvin Gordon Signs With Denver Broncos

Melvin Gordon has been a key member of the Chargers organization since joining the league in 2015. Th running back rushed for 612 yards last season.

Melvin Gordon signed a two-year, $16 million contract with Denver Broncos. The contract carries with it $13.5 million in guarantees and keeps him with the club until 2021. Gordon spent the 2019 season with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Melvin Gordon has been a key member of the Chargers organization since joining the league in 2015. The talented running back rushed for 612 yards last season and eight touchdowns in limited action. He held out for a new contract and missed four games in 2019. He split the workload with Austin Ekeler, who was rewarded when he signed a new deal with the Chargers this month. Gordon also managed to catch 42 passes out of the backfield. Gordon has decent size and speed. He’s six foot one and weighs somewhere in the 215-pound range. He has good vision and the ability to make tacklers miss.
Gordon initially entered the league in 2015 as the 15th pick of the first round.  He played his college football at Wisconsin and was prolific in college. In 2014 he was a first-team All American, won the Doak Walker award, was the Big 10 player of the year and came in second in Heisman Trophy voting, losing to Marcus Mariota from Oregon. As a senior, he ran for 2,587 yards and 29 touchdowns. At the NFL combine, he impressed, breaking the record for the 60-yard shuffle and further solidified his draft status.

In total, Gordon has been with the Chargers for five seasons. Melvin Gordon has rushed for a total of 4,240 yards and 36 touchdowns during his stint with the Chargers. Here’s a look at some potential fits for him via free agency. Running backs are always sought after and it will be interesting to see where he lands.

Melvin Gordan has been a well-known commodity at running back since his days at Wisconsin and will undoubtedly garner some attention now that he’s a free agent. It seems a change of scenery for him might help to rejuvenate his career and whoever ends up signing him, will be adding a key piece to their offensive system.
